Bottle into a pint glass... not much head... Light white and fades fast even with a hard pour, maybe a finger.. Yellow translucent body... Smell is light wheaty malty not much else...maybe something citrus or acidy...
Clean taste. Light, seasonal... Summery... Good beer for the upcoming outdoor season.

Pours clear straw color with a wispy white head that left some clingy lacing on the glass. The aroma is light. I pick up some grains and that is about it. The taste is sweet from the malt, some cereal flavors. Kind of has a pilsner malt flavor. There is a very light peppery and grassy hop bitterness in the end to balance out the brew. The feel is light with tingly carbonation; lightly sweet on the palate. An easy drinking brew for sure. Nice and refreshing and not very bitter. Good alternative for those who don't like pilsners or adjunct lagers.

The beer pours a hazy pale gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has everything a good pilsner has to offer; pilsner malts and Czech hops, except this beer has some mild Kolsch yeast esters. The taste is much the same. It's a little more bitter than most Kolschs' I've had in the past. It seems like it's modeled after a traditional Czech pilsner, but substituting the yeast strains. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a low bodied beer with good carbonation. This is an easy drinking beer. It would be a hit with both ale and lager drinkers alike.

Poured from a 12 fl oz bottle into a pint glass. Best by 7/26/11?

Appearance: Pours a yellow body with a thin white head. Decent carbonation activity.

Smell: Smells of grassy light citrus. Slightly metallic.

Taste: Slight citrus flavor. Overall, very dry and bitter, almost to the point of being sour. Representative of the style as far as I can tell.

Mouthfeel: A light and refreshing beer with a lot of carbonation.

Overall: Overall a decent offering and you have to applaud Stoudts for producing a style that is relatively rare among American craft brewers.

On-tap at Flannery's, Mercersburg PA

For a true Kolsch I think this misses the mark by being too bold in flavor but on its own it has a lot of merits as a beer.

A= golden, with modest head.

S= some light malts, hops florals and hints of honey.

T= much bolder on the hops bitters than I'd expected, far beyond a true Koln Kolsch. Thick bready malts, again much more so than a true Koln Kolsch. But enjoyable.

M= lingering hops bitters and thick malts.

O= very decent beer but a far stretch to call it a Kolsch.

Sparse and small bubbles drift lazily up a super clear pale gold ale. Thin lace follows a small and pearly white head. Lemon, hay and yeast are prominent in the nose and, as an extra sessionable brew, the make a grassy, bitter impression on the tongue but it's not overpowering. This beer is extra refreshing and disappeared from my glass before I knew it. Perfect beer with my sushi, and probably and excellent choice to pair with Indian, Thai etc. Good beer from a great brewery!

A - bright yellow with a thin cap of pure white, foamy head that has decent retention

S - lemony, grassy, faint bread, some yeast

T - very bready, biscuity, doughy, lemon, faint apple, a hint of caramel, mild grass, very faint bitterness in the finish

M - light to medium bodied, crisp, well carbonated

This is a really nice beer. The taste may in fact deserve higher than 3.5. The initial taste is very bready and malty, but as the drink progresses it becomes more Kolsch-like with some lemony, grassy notes. This is a beer that I could sit down with and really work my way through. I wouldn't mind having some of these on hand for those high-volume nights.

12oz bottle thanks to dashirey.

Nice appearance for the style - clear yellowish-golden with a well-formed white head sitting on top.

Aroma is decent. I'm not a huge fan of this style, but it's good for what it is. Bready pale malt and grain, subtle hops, and lemon peel.

Flavor is surprisingly enjoyable. Graininess and pale malt along with some spicy hop notes and tangy lemon/citrus.

Medium-light bodied and fairly clean and crisp. Mouthfeel about standard for the style.

As many have said, this is a good "lawnmower beer." It's light and refreshing without being too bland and flavorless. I don't mow lawns since I don't have a yard, but if I did, I'd imagine this would be enjoyable as I drunkenly careened around the yard, haphazardly plowing through hedges and fences as angry neighbors yelled at me.

A - Two fingers worth of tightly packed, crisp, slightly rocky pure white head... Excellent retention... The head turns slighter creamier as it settles... Loaded with gratuitous amounts of super fast carbonation rising throughout... A very pale yellow gold color... Completely translucent... Some foam clings to the sides of the glass...

S - Biscuity with an ever so slight spicy kick... Grassy and floral aromas intertwined... A touch of lemon zest...

T - As expected the bready biscuity malts dominate... A very modest touch of pepper... A modest European hop presence... A kiss of lemon on the finish that lingers...

M - The lush head touches the lips first... Medium bodied... Slight carbonation... A tad on the chewy slide... Sleek... Crisp... Clean... Refreshing... Slightly dry finish...

D - Insanely quaffable.... Insanely sessionable... Loaded with character and personality... Slightly assertive for the style... This Kolsch really delivers and doesn't pull any punches... Shouldn't be a huge surprise coming from Stoudt's but this is a truly outstanding beer... Wonderful balance... Nicely done...

Pours a clean golden yellow, with a white head. In the aroma, a faint small malt and a hint of tart earthiness. In the taste, small faint tartness, earthy, and a dry malt. A small bite and light bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry to clean aftertaste. Nice earthy presence, clean and light.

Get to use my stange for the first time! This is so exciting... Can't wait :D

A- Clear pale yellow body like a well hydrated urine. Tons of carbonation, many many streams and individual explosions of carbon dioxide. Generates a tightly packed styrofoam-esque cap and mini bubble collection of pure white. No discoloration or support from the beverage. Pretty lacing. Definitely didn't expect the numerous layers to develop like it did.

S- Clean, fresh, and sharp. The hops are spicy. Very refreshing nose on this one. The malt is very faint coming off of it. Some... mild biscuit? Definitely this grape character that starts to come out with warming. Love it.

T- Opens very malty. Throughout it has that biscuit, bread power. Some spiciness of the hops on the late stages, but this one is just clean malt power through and through. Finishes up faint soft, spongy bread center.

Some changes as it got warmer. I feel like there is a fantastic sweet flavor that bursts in the middle. Caramel maybe... Its transient and short-lived. Not there on every drink, but it definitely gives a wine-like power when it exists. Wish it happened on every drink and the score would have been much better.

M- Nice mild body, refreshing feeling. The carbonation is light and tingly rather than a burning passion. Minor stickiness. Like this one. Great beer to start my evening.

I think I'm a fan. Nothing amazing, but surely a beer I need to work into my rotation somehow in the future. Cleans up and delivers a good amount of flavor without being overbearing. Truly easy to drink like it should be. I want to say Kolsch but it seems too simple to be that... the Stange and then it to be kolsch screams too easy to guess. Ahh, hell. I don't know for sure. Pilsner?! Nah...

Nice straw color with hints of light amber. Thin head that disappears rather quickly leaving no lacing patterns. Aroma of dried grass and apples with a touch of bannana and plum (possibly vanilla). More apple and grass with the taste and something along the lines of tomato and herbs. Fairly heavy body with medium carbonation that fades quickly. This is the first Kolsch I've had in awhile and it makes me want to go after a few more.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short white head that fades quickly and leaves a decent lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains light malts, grain and some hops.

T: The taste is starts out bready with flavors of grain and a light but hearty malt character. Then a mild but notable hops presence comes in along with a touch of lemony citrus sweetness. Overall, it's pretty well-balanced. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Smooth and very crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is one of those good summer beers (a.k.a. "lawnmower beers") that is worth pounding down several of throughout a warm/hot day or evening.

Pours a nice golden color with a two-finger head that fades easily, leaving some lacing on the glass. Nice presentation.

Aroma is full of lemon zest and bready malt. Two dominant aromas here. Slight hint of hops as well.

Taste is crisp and full of bready malt with a slight hint of butter. Hops add a bit more flavor in the form of a slight grassiness.

Carbonation is a bit high here and affects the mouthfeel. Goes down a bit rough at first. Otherwise, nothing offensive.

Very nice for the style. Not the best I've had but it's nailed the drinkability part and would make a good substitute for a cheap macro for a lawnmower beer.

Poured from the bottle into a Gaffel Kolsch stange glass.

A lemony light color off the pour, creates a very nice solid white and foamy head that has some very solid staying power. Body color is a light to dull lemon yellow, some fast rising cola carbonation, cloudy and hazy. Some faint tiger stripe lacing is apparent after drinking a little bit.

Nose has a slight spritzy lemon, some very slight diacetyl that's light, a sense of crisp hop, and some dry white bread. Other than this minor diacetyl it's fairly solid.

Palate brings a noticeable muted hop and lemon brightness. Richly fills with sweet malts and crisp effervescence. Slight chew on the finish, a very good quenching punch.

Overall pretty darn good for another American producing Kolsch nose and appearances aside. Keepum coming!
