An American standard, BBC APA is a full bodied and heavily hopped American Ale. It is copper in color and brewed with a blend of pale and crystal malts, balancing the citrus and pine flavors from large doses of American and English hops to create a very drinkable, hoppy ale. BBC APA is a hophead’s dream!

Given to me by a friend who purchased while working in Louisville

Slight head which retained for 1 minute. Clean/clear pour. Lace lasted all the way through the drinking time of 30 minutes.

Bitter and hoppy smell came through.

Definite bitter taste outdid the aroma. Pleasant hoppiness throughout.

Good feeling and taste in mouth. Seems to fade rather quickly but was consumed with food. Leaves you wanting more.

Good sipping beer. Would drink more of these as it got better by the end of the glass.

3/25/18....copper colored with ring of white foam. Caramel malt and toffee bread nose. Pine bitter in the taste, sneaky. Soapy mouthfeel, leads to a chewy experience.

Another day, another bottle out of the backlog. I kid you not when I tell you that I will feel an incredible bit of relief and accomplishment when this all ends, although not any time soon.

From the bottle: "Hoppy, Full-Bodied American Pale Ale"; "Kentucky Proud".

After Pop!ping the cap, I began a gentle pour that started foaming as soon as I started. I wound up with two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with excellent retention. Color was Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity & amber highlights. Nose smelled strongly of pine hops and an earthiness from the malts. Mouthfeel was medium, but clearly highly carbonated. The taste was really resinous with pine and while it was sort of unbalanced in terms of its hops to malts ratio, it was tasty. I have had other unbalanced APAs and AIPAs that were much too bitter as a result, but this imparted a cool mintiness on the tongue and in the mouth that made it quite drinkable. Finish was cool and dry, almost like I had been using it for mouthwash. I was really digging the cool mintiness throughout.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. This beer, despite no agitation, exploded out of the bottle, settling with a tan/beige color and a 2 inch head. Smell is of malts, some hops. Taste is hops, citrus, malts, a bit herbal. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

Aroma is initially skunky, then floral and toasted malt dominant. Cannabis, resin, and light catty notes surface.

Flavor is very herbal, then harshly bitter, lingering into the finish. There's a hint of citrus, but it's quickly overwhelmed by the herbal, earthy bitterness. Malt is fairly toasty and nutty. Too harsh for my liking. The late minerally character doesn't help.

Excellent pale ale with tons of juicy orange citrus hops and bready malt character.
