Pours a very dark color, nearly black. The head is nice and tan, kind of thin, maybe less than a cm, and it goes away really fast, and eventually there is nothing left at all. Leaves very little lacing. The smell is pretty good - lots of wood, oak, a very strong vanilla presence, maybe some caramellized sugar - a hint of chocolate. It has more sweetness than I expected in it, but the bourbon is able to shine through - you get a nice smell of that oaky woody alcohol. The taste is really nice. It has the nice aspects of the roasty, sugary, malty beer, combined with the nice aspects of the bourbon. The wood and oak is very strong, the vanilla is almost too strong, and there's not biting burn of alcohol in this one. A little more sweet than I expected, but that's not a bad thing. The body is kind of thin, much thinner than I expected. It's alright I guess, but I wish it was a little more full. The carbonation is nice, a tiny bit of a rush, not much of a presence in the finish. This one is surprisingly slow, especially considering how much lower the ABV is than usual for a bourbon barrel stout. But it's fairly nice and easy to drink. I kind of like this as a bourbon barrel stout.

On the rare occasions i buy beer, i buy craft. When I'm not drinking bourbon from the state of kentucky, i drink stouts from kentucky. Very good flavor. not good at picking up flavors. I just know i love this. I buy craft mainly to support microbreweries. Macrobreweries make low quality beers and charge an arm and a leg for them sometimes. Microbreweries make good quality beer for a similar price. The appearance is nice and dark. the smell is amazing, and the taste is also amazing. Mouthfeel is very complex but can't describe it. I had cigars while i was drinking this one. might be why i couldnt pick out any flavors.
