12 oz. bottle from Tmoney99.

Pours a deep amber color with a medium beige head.

The aroma has moderately sweet caramel malt goodness with an equally impressive floral and citrus hop presence.

The flavor is well balanced with a caramel/toffee malt backbone and floral, earthy, and light citrus hops coming together nicely.

The bitterness lingers well into the finish in a good way. This was a surprise because it had no hype, but is definitely a very solid beer.

This 12 oz bottle pours a hazy copper body with an impressive beige head that retains well and leaves a ton of sticky lacing.

Aroma is bold, lots of pink grapefruit essence as soon as the bottle is opened. Some caramel malt underneath.

Lovely mouthfeel has a creamy carbonation that highlights the hop oils. Medium body.

Taste is dominated by juicy hops. A grassy and pine bitterness pushes thwe sweeter grapefruit and caramel to the background. Finishes with a flourish of citrus rind. No hint of the 8% abv.

A solid American IPA here, dripping with hops. A nice coup by the Liquor Barn stores.

Contract brewed for Liquor Barn - not likely to be even average you might think. But wait, this IPA looks and smells great, tastes pretty good and is above average overall. The beer is a deep orange-amber with a well-proportioned and very durable off-white head. The aroma is another strong point, with citrus and tropical fruits, including pineapple and tangerine rind, mixed with a faint breadiness. Quite a bit more pine comes forward in tasting, with a moderate grapefruit rind aftertaste. Of course, some hop heads will like these qualitites, but I wish it tasted more like it smells. Still, worth trying, especially at this price point.

Bottled in January 2011. Gotta say I don't have very high hopes for this one. Being a Liquor Barn exclusive and a double IPA at such a cheap price point, I'm skeptical, but here goes.

A - About average for an IPA/DIPA not a huge head but actually great lacing from the tiny disc on top. Amber in color. Only slightly hazy.

S - Flowery and fresh smelling. Pretty citrusy smelling as well as another note... I'm not sure if I like it.. its a somewhat grassy hop note but also smells kinda astringent? idk, no big deal it just smells a little off.

T - Pretty darn good. Its actually a very decent offering from a local brewery. Mmm citrusy and fresh up front with a lasting bitterness to follow. Not sure what kinda hops went into this, but I'm pretty surprised how good it is. That smell comes back into a grassy bitterness so I guess its just the hops.

M - Medium body and decent carbonation

D - I cannot tell this beer is 8 percent alcohol at all. I cannot taste it all. The bitterness is pretty heavy, but for a hop lover its absolutely great. I picked this up as a single to try and I'll def be getting a sixer sometime in the future.

Kentuckians, pick up a sixer at your local Liquorbarn!!! Its greatly priced and you will appreciate it!.

Deep golden/amber in color, with a nice head. Good lace.

Strong aroma of citrus/grapefruit hops. Potent and appealing.

Tastes pungent, piney, with sour grapefruit. I get more sour/bitter qualities, and not a lot of balance this time.

A pretty hop-heavy bomb that's pretty tasty, but there are better. Still, this is a great value for a strong Imperial IPA.

12oz bottle in Sam Adams glass (bottled Nov07)

A: Dark copper color with thick, creamy off-white head. Lots lace.
S: Muted nose, lots of hops but nothing specific jumps out
T: Super hoppy, on the citrusy side, definitely American hops. Lots of malts attempt to balance things out.
M: On the rich/creamy side of an IPA, hop oiliness on the tongue, mouth-filling.
D: This is a very nice IPA, given the amount of hops I don't think they will be brewing this in the near future. Not my favorite IPA, but worth picking up a sixer given the price if you are in Liquor Barn.

12 ounce bottle, bottled December 2008. Served in a Sam Adams BL glass, the beer pours a cloudy amber color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention is decent, lacing is good. It smells like pine and citrusy hops, bready malt and some caramel. The taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like pine and citrus (grapefruit) hops, bread/grain and caramel malt. There's also a nice lingering bitter hoppy finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit oily and creamy. Drinkability is decent too. And at a price of $6.99 a sixer, it's a pretty good deal. If you're ever at a Lexington or Louisville Liquor Barn, this isn't a bad choice to pick up for the price. I thought it was a good overall brew. Next time I'd like to try a fresher batch and see how that is.

An excellent IPA made by the Bluegrass Brewing Company especially for Liquor Barn. I took home a growler of Hop-A-Lot instead of a 6pk this time.

This beer pours a nice orangish amber color. The aroma is full of pine resin, citrus and floral hops. The taste has a huge hop characteristic. A perfect beer for hop-heads! A slight malt backbone is dominated by the hop.

A similar feel to the BBC APA, yet bigger and stronger. The alcohol content (8%) is hidden underneath the flavor. You are not going to be able to find this kind of big and bold IPA for $6.99 for either a growler or 6pk anywhere.

So check out your nearest Liquor Barn and grab a growler or 6pk.

As noted by others, it is interesting to see the Liquor Barn outlets contract for a pair of unique beers, rather than just have a vanity label slapped on an existing brew. Boldly hopped with citrus notes, with a substantial malt backbone to hold it up. I'm not sure I would go so far as to classify this as a double IPA, but it easily clears the APA mark.

Poured this 12 oz. brown bottle into a Samuel Adams glass. Bottled in 2/08 (according to notch on the label). The body was clear of sediment and dark honey colored. Cream colored foamy head left a sticky lace netting.

Smell was fruity, sweet hops. Citrus sweetness.

Taste was hops oils, lovely grapefruit pith bitterness, and caramel sweetness. Smooth bitterness, not harsh. Nice long finish. This one hides the alcohol well.

Mouthfeel was medium to full with moderate carbonation. Not much alcohol sizzle in the mouth.

I wish the BBC would adopt this as a regular offering, especially since they do not offer an IPA in their line-up!

Thanks to my buddy Brian for sharing a little love from Kentucky.

This beer pours a dark honey amber that's just a little bit on the golden side. There's a swarm of bubbles coming up from the bottom of my pint (which I don't look forward to drinking) but they sustain a beautiful, frothy head.

Smells like disturbed brush, pungent pine dryness and a squeeze of grapefruit rind. There's a touch of rye and crackers beneath.

Tastes quite slick and clean at first with a piney zip of hop that effervesces against my palate bringing with it touches of Sprite. Sadly, this finishes off quite dry and bittering with a lingering, woody, coarse hop.

Feels dense, but slick. The CO2 actually works quite well with this giving it a soda-like feel.

Not too bad, but I don't think my tummy likes the bubbles. Also, the super dry finishes is a bit much.

Label reads: Brewed and Bottled for Liquor Barn by BBC Beer Co.; Good thing I visited Liquor Barn on my visit to Louisville.

Pours is deep gold, slight haze. Big, firm, head - good retention and most excellent lacing.

Nose is floral hops and carmel malts...but a bit restrained on the hop side for this style.

Medium mouthfeel on entry - nice balance of carmel malts and piney hops. The hops take over quickly and provide rather full bittering that builds to the finish. Finish is dry and bitter. Grapefruit.

At 8%, it provides nice warming charachter.

A very flavorful beer at a good price! 6.99 for a sixer.

Went to liquor barn looking for a stout and or IPA. Couldn't pass up a 6er of a double IPA for 7.49.. (So glad I got a 4 pack of storm king) Honestly, the only reason this beer intrigued me was because it didn't say BBC on it. I haven't liked anything I've tried from them but may try a couple more just because they're local..
Anyway, the only thing I liked about this is the creamy head and lacing that persists throughout. It's just too much. Way too one dimensional. It's a hop bomb and the bitterness is just too much for my taste.
The only reason I'm not scoring this even lower is because of the price.

A deep amber color with a cream colored head that is a quarter inch high, that shows strong sustainability. The aroma starts with a strong malt sweet fragrance, then blends itself to a grassy and floral scent. The malt is very striking on the palate at first taste. The hops soon takeover, with a citrus bitterness, bringing along a combination of flavors. Grass, pine, and tobacco all blend together at the end and staying on the palate for sometime. A medium heavy feel, with touch stickiness at the front, then fading to a medium dryness at the end of each taste. Overall a solid IPA, a strong malt backbone along with the expected

I was skeptical of this beer when I first saw it due to the fact that it's brewed for Liquor Barn. This caused me to think "Store Brand." However, some good feedback on this site encouraged me to buy it. I'm glad I did.

The beer pours a deep copper color with a tan head. Lots of nice lacing is left on the glass. Lots of juicy, citrussy, grapefruity hops show up on the nose, along with caramel and alcohol.

The tastes starts off with some good juicy sweetness followed by a big whollop of bitterness that sticks around forever. Alcohol also shows up on the taste, with a nice full mouthfeel.

This is a damn good IPA. Possibly my favorite beer I've had from BBC.

Poured into a shaker: Amber with gold highlights under two fingers sticky, meringue with tapioca bubbles. Lots of small, slow nucleation, patches of sticky lacing.

Piney orange marmalade in the smell, with a cakey, "browned edges" kind of sweetnes, like an orange cake with a zesty hop brightness. Good stuff.

Bitterness hits immediately in the flavor, with zest & pine, then lets in a bit of orange & caramel sugar, then a mild lemon tea-like dryness in the finish. Nice bracing bitterness in the finish, too, rounding off like an orange muffin.

Medium-full-bodied, mildly abrasive bitterness, smooth finish & then a woody/tannic feel.

Straight up good, nothing showy or crazy, hits the right notes & definitely assertive. Well done.

This obscure brew has very limited distribution. Its a shame as it is truely a quality product and would get a lot more respect if it were distributed widely. Here is my review:

A: Pours a very dark amber color. Almost a burnt caramel, bordering on to brown. A bit darker than a typical IPA. Has a nice foamy head that leaves thick lacing on the glass.

S: Smells quite fruity. Some earthy, grassy notes. Doesn't smell very citric or bitter. Good smell overall.

T: This tastes a lot like Victory Hop Devil. Not very citrusy. More grassy and earthy with a touch of pine. Mild bitterness. Definetly get some toasted malts in the finish. Somewhat bready. Very well balanced flavors.

M: Medium bodied and very clean finish. Bitterness lingers a little after each swig. More thirst quenching than drying. Pretty good overall.

D: It is a little heafty at 8% ABV, but actually drinks very smoothly. Good flavors that don't overwhelm the palate. Great beer to sit back on the porch on a hot summer evening.

Very nice beer that actually surpassed my expectations. It is brewed by Bluegrass Brewing, which tend to make pretty marginal beers overall. Quite a surprise hit and well worth seeking out.

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and food lacing. Smells of citrus hops, slight floral hops, sweet malt, hint of grass, and a hint of pale malt. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of citrus hops, sweet malt, slight grain, and slight grass. Overall, good appearance and aroma.

A big thanks to mmm///beer for this one, my first Kentucky brew! Pours a cloudy amber color with a medium white head, with lots of lacing. The aroma is tons of caramel malts, and an equally large amount of hops, mostly grapefruit notes. The flavor very nice; a hefty amount of caramel and earthy malts attempt to balance out the powerful bitter hops. The hops are mostly bitter metallic and citrus notes. Leaves your palate with a zesty hop bite. Quite nice. The alcohol adds some warmth, but overall is subdued.
