If you have been to one Woodman's you know the layout of all of them. Food and alcohol are in the same building but different rooms, vintage wood paneling covers all the walls. The craft beer is in the corner coolers with the larger cases of beer a bit further down in coolers with plastic curtain covering them to keep them cold. I was hoping to find some limited release beers from WI breweries but I think the turnover is pretty fast here. They were well prepared for Illinois folks in search of Bell's beers. There was a tower of Two Hearted with a hand written sale label taped to the top row. They had a full line of many popular WI breweries and some nice seasonals aswell. There were only a few things in singles and you can't mix and match six packs like other Woodman's.

I didn't find any real gems but they had a good supply of local beers and needless to say I didn't leave empty handed. On a side note, the cheese curd from the store didn't have the squeak of freshness but it was gone before I got back to Chicago.

A great source for New Glarus releases just over the IL border. Other WI only beers as well. Oddly no credit cards are accepted, so plan accordingly.

Excellent selection, better than most places I've been, and the build-your-own helps a lot out when trying new things.

Good selection of beers. Some beers that you can't get in IL. No credit cards are accepted here. Grocery store is great too. Huge selection and good prices.

The liquor department is just smaller than a Binny's store. It has a great selection of beers. Mostly Wisconsin and local breweries, but there are a few others too.

The prices cannot be beat. If you live in Chicago and want to get away for an afternoon go here to pick up New Glarus beers. It's not a tourist place like Mars and less expensive.

I didn't shop in the grocery store / food section, so I'm just reviewing the liquor store section (which is totally separate).

First of all: no credit cards. Debit or cash only, so just be prepared. There weren't many employees helping customers out (which was fine with me), but the couple people talked to were very friendly.

Being from Illinois, there are a lot of breweries we don't get that are distributed in Wisconsin and Woodman's is my go to place to get them. They have literally every seasonal New Glarus product in stock, including the Thumbprint, larger format (Raspberry Tart, Serendipity, etc), and I even found their special 20th Anniversary Beer here, which really made me happy.

If you don't know exactly what you want, they have a huge "mix a 6 pack" section for around $10. All in all, the prices were very good too. I took a quick peek at the liquor section and they had a good mix of just about everything you could want, but nothing too crazy.

All in all, a great place to grab all of your Wisconsin brews in one place for a reasonable price.

A - Is like a standard liquor store but much bigger. They do have the craft beer and the import sections completly seperated which is odd.

Q - Is great they have all the great craft line up plus they can satify your New Glarus fix with no problem

S - I've never really asked for help but there are people everywhere and I would assume they would have no problem helping anyone

Sel - Very big most is stored in the refrigerators on the outer edge of the store and they also have build your own six packs.

V - Is great and I even found Founders Breakfast Stout at the end of the year last year on sale for $8.99

This isn't a beer store so much as a grocery store that happens to have some great beer selection. There is a great selection of Wisconsin beers such as New Glarus, Tyranena, Ale Asylum, Sprecher and Central Waters along with many good beers from outside the Wisconsin area including some nice Belgian imports (though not many). This is a great place for those that are traveling as the access from the interstate is easy. The service is sometimes hit and miss. The store is a grocery store after all, but the liqour manager Scott is somewhat knowledgable. The overall selection is great with the only thing comparable in the area being Tenuta's. They do get a good selection of limited release beers as well but with the amount of traffic they get are quickly gone, usually within a day or two. The pricing is fair and the majority of the prices are very competitive. Overall i would recommend Woodman's as a place to check out whenever you are in the area. There is also a great beer bar right up the frontage road called Uncle Mike's which I highly recommend.

A-Liquor store within a grocery store. I don't know how I would really describe this better

Q-Very high qualty selection. Literally 5 miles outside Illinois so it is a good stop for any Chicagoan going in or out of wisconsin.

S-Never talked to anyone here. I will knock it down a notch because they DO NOT TAKE CREDIT CARDS! be aware. I don't use debit or cash so it took some extra time for me to figure this out

S-Most of what wisonsin has to offer

V-very good prices on everything. Cannot complain about this one bit

This is a great place to find beers that are not sold outside of Wisconsin or not available in Illinois. They offer variety packs of some big name brewers such as New Glaurs, and all at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a bottle of special rariety or uncoomon this isn't your place. But, if you want a good decent selection for a decent price you will be pleseantly suprised. They also have the sample packs that they sell at the bigg whole sale stores; Stella Family, Leinekugal, ect, and you can buy brats right after in the same place.

Finally made a stop into this woodmans.

Pretty much the cookie cutter layout of any other woodmans. Some things are a bit different but nothing extreme.

The selection is pretty much the same as any other woodmans as well. Except a bit more sparse. It seemed like they take a bit less care of the beer section in here as compared to the other stores I've been to. Like NG for example. In my local woodmans there is an entire section devoted to it. In this one it seemed like an after thought.

No service but that's a given at any woodmans.

Overall this place is like woodmans light in my opinion.

This store is something else! There is a separate room for beer and liquor, and the remainder of the store is mostly a food superstore. The atmosphere felt like a typical large beer warehouse. You just search for what you want and help yourself with a basket or cart.

If you walk in from the other part of the store the imports and marcos are in coolers along the left wall. Along the back wall are cases and 12-packs (mixed samplers aplenty). Along the right wall are craft/micros and individual bombers.

Compared to prices in Chicago this place is a steal! Got some New Glarus and saw several other WI breweries. I will certainly be going back to Woodman's.

This is probably the best place for value in the whole city. Singles selection is limited to bombers, and staff generally doesn't know much about beer. Selection in general is very broad, and as far as quality they do get some of the higher end releases, but they don't last long. If you want to load up on a broad variation of Great Lakes brews and don't mind missing a few rare releases, then this is your place. For 90% of my beer purchases, this is my go to place. It also serves as a convenient place for people from the Chicago area to load up on New Glarus and other Wisconsin beers, and has easy on/ easy off access to and from I-94.

Visited this beer mecca right before closing time on Saturday night with my brother-in-law. There is even a special entrance for just the liquor department, so one can avoid the average shopper. Plenty of WI breweries are available, that are not carried in Illinois.

Great selection in the cooler (Oso's, Ale Asylum, Central Waters, New Glarus, Milwaukee Ale House, Capital, just to name a few WI breweries) and the service was very friendly. There are of course other craft breweries from around the USA represented, plus your basic American macros and some imports. The beer is cheaper than when I usually buy it Illinois, perhaps cost of living and taxes.

I will most definitely be returning to stock up on all the Wisconsin beers and try other breweries.

Went up just across the border to get beers that happen to not want to make it just a little bit farther to Illinois. I had heard good things about the selection and they were pretty spot on. The have something from every Wisconsin brewery. Many 6ers and bombers to be had. There were no single bottles which was a disappointment, but I truly feel that this was a productive run to grab some New Glarus and Central Waters beers. The prices were more than fair and the staff had no problems with the checkout, though they weren't that active on the floor, but since it's a grocer it's not really expected. I found most everything that I was looking for and I would definitely go back for that which I can not get in Chicago...which is surprisingly a lot more than I thought it was.

Stopped in here with VDubb86 to scope out some Wisconsin-y goodness. The beer section is along the walls of the liquor department, which is separated from the rest of the store. Everything is in coolers, save a very small display of Ridgeway singles in the middle of the place. A great selection of local sixers, with some minor representation from other states as well. No singles to be found, but there's a small but loaded selection of bombers to make up for this. Cases and BMC stuff is along the back wall and most of the left wall, the rest of which holds a kinda sad variety of import singles. The prices are pretty nice (Alpha Klaus is cheaper here than by us?), and the service is friendly and helpful, if a bit on the rare side. Overall, I think I'm gonna make it my business to make a run up here probably once a month: I needs my Wisconsin fix!

This is my go-to beer store and has treated me very well over the years. Well, it isn't a beer store so much as a grocery store that happens to have some great beers, but it still gets the job done. Lots of great Wisconsin beers such as New Glarus, Tyranena, Ale Asylum, Sprecher and the like, and also lots of good beers from outside the area. A great place for those across the border in Illinois to come for Wisconsin-only beers like New Glarus. All the beer is kept in a cooler, which is mostly a good thing. Lots of macro, but once again, this is not meant to be a specialty beer store and that's what most people drink in these parts. The prices are very reasonable compared to other shops in the area.

I was in Kenosha for the day for I checked beerfly for the top place around to get NG. I pulled up to this place and right away was impressed with the size. Sadly, it was down hill from there. Almost all the beers are in a cooler which is a huge no no. The beer that was there was over 50% crappy macro stuff. I really went there for the NG. They had a decent selection, 7 regulars but only 2 unpluggeds. The rest of the selection was poor. They had some stone beers but were out of a couple. I would not go here unless you just want to get some NG, has to be better locations out there.

I'm from IL and these guys carry Stone. 'Nuff said. Awesome. Great prices, great selection, not sure if there is a beer brewed in WI you can't find here (though Lakefront Fuel Cafe is strangely absent fairly often). Awesome New Glarus and Tyranena selection. Also impressive CA selection (lotsa Lagunitas, North Coast, Stone (as previously mentioned), Sierra specialties, etc... Love me some Hop Whore, from Tyranena, too. That was a nice surprise. They also seem to generally receive huge shipments of the Bell's and Founders' specialties. Recommended

A bit better than the typical Woodman's but same in appearance. Like the other locations the Liquor store is connected but you have to purchase everything seperately in that section. Also typical of Woodman's Liquor department is the insanely long lines I encounter every time

The cashiers are always friendly and go as fast as they can though which is good. I have yet to come across any employee helping outside the check out lines though.

As for the selection, they have more than the typical Woodman's. The coolers line the left side and most of the back of the store with beer in six packs but this location has a warm shelf of bigger bottles. Bombers and 750s and such. A lot to chose from here. Good selection of Belgian beers, a lot of Euro Imports, but it mainly revolves around American craft beer.

A lot of Wisconsin stuff with surrounding areas chiming in too.

I scored a six pack sampler of six different August Schell beers which I've been looking for forever so that made me really happy. Good pricing here too. Typical of most other places but decent nonetheless. Really out of my way besides the occasional trip to and from Illinois.

A must stop for the beer geek on a Midwest mission who does not have time for a trip to Milwaukee. I was in Chicago for work with about a half day to do beer shopping. This Woodman's is close to the border so it made an excellent addition to my beer itinerary.

The selection of Wisconsin only beers was quite good. I was able to grab some New Glarus and Central Waters stuff, among others. There was a good selection of Sprecher, Capital and Ale Asylum, among others. Also some FFF and Bells.

International selection was decent if rather small.

Prices were good, service was pleasant. A great stop that I will make anytime I am in the area with limited time.

My wife has dragged me to Woodman's in prep for many holiday dinners. I never knew there was a seperate store within the store that was filled with such good selection. The selection is not very large, but definitely sufficient, and Kenosha is a much shorter drive for me than Mundelien or Algonquin.

I'm a big fan of New Glarus, and being from right over the border in Illinois, I find myself making special trips to find it. If I want the entire New Glarus line available to me, Woodman's is where I go.

I was not approached while there, so I cannot comment on the service.

They carry mostly six packs, and most are refridgerated. There is a selection of 22oz., but probably not enough for most enthusiasts. There is however, a very good representation of most beer styles.

This is a fine beer store, in my opinion, it's not a Binny's or DiCarlo's, but it met my beer needs. While you're there, check out the main store for their specialty meats and cheeses.

I visited this Woodman's on 9/20/2009.

The beer and liquor area of Woodman's is a store within a store (the groceries are separate) and it even has its own entrance on the side of the building. Parking was more than ample.

Upon entering, there are a few sale beer items on shelves near the registers, but the bulk of the selection is down the left wall and across the entire back of the store. I would say there were 30-40 cooler doors of beer, with at least half or more sporting craft beer six packs. I saw all of the larger Wisconsin and greater midwest breweries represented (New Glarus, Lakefront, Tyranena, Ale Asylum, Central Waters, Bells, FFF, Goose Island, etc) as well as a ton of stuff from the smaller Wisconsin breweries that you don't see if you live outside the state. There were also a couple aisles of warm beer, with a strong repesentation of imported Belgian, German, and British stuff. Being September, there was also a bunch of different Oktoberfest beers on hand.

The service was friendly but a bit less than knowledgable. Prices ranged from very fair to pretty low, depending on the beer.

All in all, this is an easy place to get to with a great selection and super prices. I will make a habit of stopping here whenever I am in the area!

Woodman's in Kenosha is decent, but a few simple changes could make it great. the six-pack section is along the lines of other Woodman's. there are no singles of these six-packs, however, which leaves much to be desired. some singles of imports are offered at room temperature, with all the six-packs in coolers.

quality is good. same as other Woodman's without many dusty bottles and clean conditions.

service is non-existant, much like any grocery store liquor section.

selection is good. most local breweries are represented with their full lines, including New Glarus, Sprecher, Capital, Central Waters, and others. otherwise there is nothing too hard to find or limited in nature.

overall, this is a decent stop right off of the highway for beer, but the Woodman's by the airport in Milwaukee is much better.

Photo of Florida9
3.4/5  rDev -13.3%

Woodman's is a warehouse type market. They sell in quantity, but luckily, they have no problem with quality either.

The liquor store is large and industrial, but also quite functional. Along the sides (three of the four) are refrigerated cases. As you circle the cases (from left to right) the beer gets progressively shittier in quality, going from craft to imports and eventually to cases upon cases of macros.

Selection is decent, with a heavy focus on Wisconsin beers, but apparently I've been spoiled, as the selection at the Madison Woodman's is far superior. However, this Woodman's stocks some brands currently unavailable in IL, so it is still worth the stop when I'm in the area.

Service is non-existent. On a recent visit, there was literally one employee in the entire store and he was running a cash register. The line of people waiting to purchase their goods, snaked around a couple of aisles. Normally, I would not tolerate this and I would simply leave, but I got off the highway specifically to go here so I sucked it up and waited in this impressively long line.
