Enjoyed a pint at Calgary Crowfoot location. Arrived a dark bronze amber color with a half finger of beige head. Rich hop aroma and taste. Toasty malts are darker than expected for this "pale lager", some biscuit and caramel cream flavors propping up tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, and lime rind, fresh cut grass, herbal licorice or perhaps parsley (a tell-tale sign of aggressive hopping that hasn't had much time to mellow out), and moderate floral notes. Crisp, clean, and almost flinty, obviously a lager on the palate and providing an interesting contrast to Brewsters' IPA offerings. Nice citrus rind semi-dry "iced tea" finish. More malt flavor than other IPLs and does not suffer for this, although the hops are perhaps veering into coarse territory.

20oz pint at Century Park.
This beer appears a clear, bright medium bronzed amber hue, with a thin cap of wanly foamy, and mostly creamy beige head, which leaves some decent springtime melt mountain vista lace around the glass as things slowly abate.
It smells of somewhat bittter generic citrus rind, leafy pine resin, a bit of disjoint lemon furniture polish, crackery, bready pale malt, a touch of biscuity toffee, and further leafy, kind of perfumed hops. The taste is gritty, grainy pale malt, nougaty caramel, orange cream, complex forest floor pine and leaf petrichor essences, more Mr.Clean lemon acridity, and a reduced floral hop component.
The bubbles are fairly involved, if in an understated, somewhat edgy, astringent manner, the body a solid medium weight, and candy-bar smooth, the green vegetation hops picking and prodding just a bit. It finishes off-dry, the mixed pale and caramel maltiness well parrying any lingering leafy, woodsy, and floral hops.
Since India Pale Lagers are still a proto-style, nailing down any expected characteristics is a dubious prospect at best. Here, we have more of a hoppy American Red Ale, even though the hop bill is rather European in origin. Oh, and I say 'ale', as this is apparently a blending of lager and ale, according to the oddly knowledgable-seeming waitress. Hard to argue that from this vantage point.
