Malt lover’s rejoice! Flying Frog is the only Vienna lager produced in Alberta, putting it in a class to itself, wholly unique to Brewsters. Our most malt-forward offering, this golden lager has a very mild hop profile.

One of Brewster's regular offerings, identified here as a pale lager. Although the beer is a light bronze hue with white head, fairly light, the aroma and flavor profile is more like that of an amber/red lager and I'd reclassify it as such. Beer styles are fuzzy categories I suppose. Aroma is fairly rich and malty, sweet with dry biscuits and herbs. Taste is similarly rich and aromatic, with a nice smooth wash of caramel in the finish and sparkly vinous fruit that recalls white wine. Light fruit and perfume that almost recalls tobacco add to the latter effect, but there is ample toasty flavor to keep things balanced and reasonably complex. Hops not prominent but keep things from getting too sweet. One of my favorites from the regular Brewster's crew.

500ml bottle picked up at the 11th Ave SW Brewsters in Calgary
A - bright clear copper, two fingers of tan head retained very nicely, notable lacing
S - notes of butterscotch, pale malt, fresh grass, and cream
T - pale grainy maltiness and a touch of butterscotch up front, a bit of a champagne type flavour, finishes with light grassiness
M - lightish body, smooth and well rounded, finishes just a ittle dry and somewhat buttery
O - a nice example of a lager in Canada that isn't simple adjunct yellow fizz, this has a smooth buttery maltiness quickly balanced by grass and grain, definitely impressed

500ml bottle poured into pint glass nov6 2010

A clear copper with moderate carbonation feeding a long lasting fingers worth of head that left a few patches of lace

S malty caramel, and dry cereal with a little tea and some bread

T not far from the smell, almost as if I sweetened tea with toffee

M thicker then expected and the flavors lasted longer then on would have thought

D I had little problems finishing the bottle, It could use some summer heat though

picked this one up at the Crowfoot Brewsters and can't be bothered to enter another Brewsters, far as I know they all serve the same beer I'm hoping someone will correct me if I'm wrong

20oz 'True Pint' at the Edmonton Oliver location.

This beer arrives at the table appearing a clear, bright medium copper amber hue, with a thin cap of tightly foamy off-white head, which leaves the little bit of webbed lacing that could around the glass as things duly recede.

It smells of semi-sweet grainy pale malt, a surprising hit of gooey caramel, and herbal, leafy hops. The taste is biscuity, bready malt, that soft Brewsters yeastiness, creamed caramel, a hard to nail down fruitiness, and earthy, leafy, and mildly herbal hops.

The carbonation is moderate, just a tight sort of frothiness prevailing, the body a solid medium weight for a lager, and generally smooth. It finishes well off-dry, the caramel sweetness persisting over the quickly fading hops.

A pleasant, decently rounded, and quite refreshing amber lager - the weight, colour, and flavour clearly indicate that the BA style for this is obviously wrong - it should be categorized as an American Red or Amber Lager - perhaps the recipe has changed over the years.
