An industry pint at the downtown Edmonton location.

This beer appears a clear, very dark chestnut brown hue, with broad reddish highlights, and one finger of foamy, mildly creamy tan head, which leaves some beautifully consistent rainforest profile lace around the glass as things slip away.

It smells of nutty caramel malt, bitter cocoa, some lactic notes, and musty, leafy, earthy hops. The taste is semi-sweet chocolate, grainy caramel malt, lightly sour milk, a hint of dry-roast coffee beans, and sturdy earthy, leafy hops.

The bubbles are a wee bit frothy, but generally agreeable, the body on the lee side of medium weight, and low-grade smooth. It finishes off-dry, the caramel, chocolate, and sour creaminess maintaining enough sweetness to offset the lingering hops.

A decent old-world porter, the sourness duly present, the malt good and complex, and the hops kept in noble restraints. Could see having a few of these, though maybe not the 4 or 5 that the bartender claims (ok, laments) putting back last night.
