Bottled on 9/16/13.
Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, bread, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, honey, and dark fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, toffee, brown sugar, and dark fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with nice sugary and fruity aspects all around.
Serving type: bottle.

Appearance: Amber red color. Half a finger of head on an aggressive pour with some random lacing left behind. A decent amount of active average carbonation for the style.
Smell: Amber malts, toffee, oak, and molasses on the nose. Mossy hops join the oak and really open up on the body. Bready malts and medium bodied fruits light up on the back end with slight boozy accents really bring an american edge.
Taste: Toffee and molasses sweetness blasts on the palate. Oak and mossy hops are welcome additions on the body. Dark fruits and some lingering malt sweetness mesh well on the back end.
Mouthfeel: Gets a little sugary and boozy but is kept in check for the most part. Carbonation fits.
Overall: Really solid offering from Ale Smith on a style that is rarely done by American breweries. I originally balked at the pricetag, but got it at 50% off so it was a no doubter then. Still drinking awesome, give it a go.
