Notes/Commercial Description:
Each Halloween we release this special concoction to celebrate one of our favorite holidays. Deep blood-red in color, an intense aroma of pine and citrus from an abundance of American hops balances the sweetness and rich, bready flavors of this beer's caramel malts. The result is a fiendishly smooth brew that will make your taste buds scream with delight.

This beer pairs excellently with toffee, caramel apples, or your favorite horror flick.

Handsome dark coppery red color with a decent foam in the St. Bernardus globe. Pleasantly spritzy in the mouth. Fresh malty smell with a zesty citrus note.

Medium body with a malty substance. Hops are bitter and insistent, but not overwhelming. Just slightly sweet with a flowery and bitter hoppiness.

Actually, this is really good for this Red Ale category. It has a nice balance of hoppy intensity with the mellow roasted malt. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons Marketplace on West Point Loma.

Bomber poured into Stella Artois chalice

A: Pours a deep ruby redish brown with a creamy light brown head that laces beautifully.

S: Citrus and tropical fruit hops backed with roasted malt.

T: Nice citrus and tropical fruit hop hit with a little pineapple mango and candied orange, some floral hop notes and caramel malt sweetness, and a coffee hit and bitterness on the finish.

M: Medium to heavy body, almost creamy, with moderate carbonation.

O: Wasn't expecting coffee in this one but it is a nice surprise. Gotta love this one. And get at least a chuckle out of the abv%

From 22 oz bomber to nonic pint

Early 2014 batch

A: Blood-red in color, as expected. It's 100 degrees in San Diego so I let this brew chill down close to freezing...almost no head, but lacing everywhere.

S: Toffee-malts at the front, floral hops round things out. I don't know of there's some placebo-effect due to the Halloween-themed release, but I'm picking up a distinct note of sweet chocolate.

T: And the chocolate is on the palate as well. Toasted malts anchor the flavors, showcasing citrusy and grassy notes. Extremely drinkable - this wouldn't be described as either 'malty' or 'hoppy'. Medium finish, slightly sweet residuals between sips.

M: Medium-heavy body, lightly carbonated.

A tasty beer, delivering what it intends. This along with My Bloody Valentine are always a good draw at local beer bars.
