Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Todd on 10-13-2003

Each Halloween we release this special concoction to celebrate one of our favorite holidays. Deep blood-red in color, an intense aroma of pine and citrus from an abundance of American hops balances the sweetness and rich, bready flavors of this beer's caramel malts. The result is a fiendishly smooth brew that will make your taste buds scream with delight.

This beer pairs excellently with toffee, caramel apples, or your favorite horror flick.

22oz bottle poured into chalice.

Pours dark amber with a 1.5 finger khaki head. The nose is filled with grapefruit and orange. It also has a very pronounced earthy grass note. Very nice aroma. I'm very surprised how much I enjoyed the taste of this. You get a nice blast of grapefruit at the front of the tongue. Followed by a grassy note that neutralizes the citrus. At the back of the tongue the sweetness is kicked up a notch. The mouthfeel is fantastic, light feel, easy to drink, perfect ABV. I am blown away by how much I like this brew being a style that I'm not a big fan of. The depth of flavors is vast considering the light body it's working with. Great beer.

Bottled 9/5/13.

Pours a hazy orange-red with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, pine, and herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel and citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice mixture of citrus and pine hop qualities that make this one smell and taste quite nice.

Appearance-Pours dark red to brown with an off white foam out of the bottle.

Smell-Grass, red candy and caramel blend together for a strong aroma.

Taste-Follows the nose.

Mouthfeel-Excellent balance of aromas and flavors. Long finish with a medium to full mouthfeel that I would have expected to be heavier.

Overall-Really good beer. Powerful aromas and flavors that are balanced excellently.

22oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark copper; huge fluffy off-white head that sticks around and leaves great retention and lacing. The aromas are full of grapefruit, pine, and some caramel malts. The flavors seems to have a prefect balance between the hops and malts. Lots of grapefruit and citrus notes along with more pine needles. It's slightly sweet due to the caramel malts. There's hints of toffee as well. It does have a solid bitterness, but gets cut down by the malts. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's on the fuller side of medium-bodied; moderate carbonation and it's very creamy and smooth. Alcohol goes unnoticed. It's very easy and fun to drink.

This is a great beer. It has all of the characteristics you would expect from a red ale and then some. There's not much to complain about with this one. Well done.
