Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Todd on 10-13-2003

Each Halloween we release this special concoction to celebrate one of our favorite holidays. Deep blood-red in color, an intense aroma of pine and citrus from an abundance of American hops balances the sweetness and rich, bready flavors of this beer's caramel malts. The result is a fiendishly smooth brew that will make your taste buds scream with delight.

This beer pairs excellently with toffee, caramel apples, or your favorite horror flick.

Picked up two growlers of this at the Speedway Stout release.

Pours a dark rich red with big fluffy off-white head, hits you with a big burst of american hops backed up with sweet malty aroma behind it. Great hoppy burst in the mouth, though well balanced with a thick malty backbone. Highly drinkable, with a pleasant citrusy hops aftertaste. A great beer from alesmith. this one is quite different from past years, seems to be getting darker with higher ibu's as the years go by.

On-tap at the Blue Palms

Appearance is deep amber with reddish hues, poured with a large fingers worth of head that was pretty stable.

Aroma is full of citrus fruits and scents from the forest; earthy pine and slightly resinous.

The taste for the most part is mirrored by the aroma. Hops are definitely the star with bitterness bursting in mid sip and lingering past the swallow. No harshness in the bitterness, and there is a nice malt backbone of biscuit/caramel that is just shy of balancing out the hops.

Mouthfeel is light and thin while carbonation is around medium.
This is a very hop centric brew that while delicious, can be palate fatiguing. However each sip is packed with great hop flavor.

On tap at the Green Dog in Long Beeotch!

The beer was a true deep red with a nice off-white head.

The aroma was good mix of herbal and citrus hops with sweet caramel malts.

The flavor of the beer was reasonably hoppy, but let the sweet caramel malts shine through. The maltiness had a nice touch of roastiness in the background.

The mouthfeel was medium and the carbonation was good.

This beer strikes that rare point between and amber and a brown and comes in red.

A: dark mahogany. deep amber. lots of carbonation with a hint of alcohol legs. Strong tan head that stands up two fingers. evil looking beer. see what i did there?

S: a hint of tropical fruit. strong grapefruit presence with citrus bite. Underlying toasted bread with a slightly sweet biscuity caramel.

T: Right off the bat the biscuit malt and deep toffee overwhelm you. Toasted crackers. sweet enzymes. The back end is where the hops hit you. Pine and earthy hops. a hint of something floral. the finish is sweet pineapple and grapefruit before a drying pine bite. delicious.

M: The carbonation is medium to high. It tingles as it goes down. long piney somewhat wet grass finish.

O: Very impressed here. Lots of toast, bread and crackers with a strong delicate balance of sweet hops. This bottle stands no change. Like the necromonicon beware of this beast!

22oz bottle poured into chalice.

Pours dark amber with a 1.5 finger khaki head. The nose is filled with grapefruit and orange. It also has a very pronounced earthy grass note. Very nice aroma. I'm very surprised how much I enjoyed the taste of this. You get a nice blast of grapefruit at the front of the tongue. Followed by a grassy note that neutralizes the citrus. At the back of the tongue the sweetness is kicked up a notch. The mouthfeel is fantastic, light feel, easy to drink, perfect ABV. I am blown away by how much I like this brew being a style that I'm not a big fan of. The depth of flavors is vast considering the light body it's working with. Great beer.

Taste: A nice big after taste of Blueberry. Sweet malt hits the tongue followed by fig, slight grapefruit, slight pine hops, slight blackberry. I love the mesh of flavors, and this is worth the buy if you find it. I wish this was a year around beer, and I think this is like Flipside from SN.

22oz for $4.50

A: Deep brownish amber with almost purple qualities to it. Aggressive cream colored head. Really like the color on this one its almost pretty!

S: Sweet malts abound, orange peel, raspberries, piney hops, and malt biscuit

T: Sweet malt hits the tongue followed by fig, grapefruit, orange, pine hops, slight blackberry, and citrus pine! Super tasty brew!

M: Medium body, slight cloying that is just barely there, hops dance spicy on teh tongue then dries out smooth!

O: Another great brew from Alesmith! Hoppier then most ambers but you won't see me complaining. Really starting to enjoy this hoppy sub genre of ambers recently and i think this is the best yet. That being said it's not one of Alesmtih's best but that still puts it head and shoulders above most other beers. It really good just not all the way there like My bloody valentine or their IPA. Still a great brew that you should try!

Evil Dead Red... named after the cult classic Evil Dead. This is a great brew, Sam Raimi should be proud. Sampled from a growler fill.

Fills my tulip glass a deep copper to ruby red color, makes a fluffy offwhite head that fades slowly and leaves a nice lacing all the way down. Smell is rich of lightly roasted maltyness and I think chinook stands out overall in the hop aromatics. Flavor is loaded up with a huge malty backbone and light sweetness, medium hopped citrus flavor here, not much bitterness to speak of, this one is very smooth. Mouthfeel is medium, its clean and not terribly sticky. This is really drinkable, an awesome session beer. I'll finish off the growler today no problem..

Hats off to Alesmith for this one, while this is not my favorite style, this is easily the best that the style has to offer.
