BEER INFO

Brewed by:
AleSmith Brewing Company
California, United States | website

Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 12.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Some would argue that Speedway Stout, easily one of the finest coffee-infused imperial stouts in the world, needs no embellishment, that this burly yet beguilingly smooth and easy-drinking beer is perfect on its own. We’re not ones to disagree, but a thirst for experimentation leads us to tinker with our recipes—even those of the highest order. In the case of Hammerhead Speedway Stout, we endeavored to maximize java intensity as baristas do with the classic coffee-house offering, the “hammerhead,” in which a shot of espresso is added to a cup of coffee. For this beer, we take our already coffee-rich Speedway Stout and add a plentiful dose of crushed Ethiopian and espresso beans. The result is a sultry, velveteen beer with eye-opening bite.

Had this in a 8oz tulip on draft at Pub Royale in Chicago. This bad boy packs a serious punch of bite for a stout with definite popping coffee flavors and a great creamy splash to the palate. It is big, delicious and has you craving for more. I would love to find this in bottle form!

This is basically an extra coffee speedway. The espresso adds an heightened bitterness that you don't get from beers that are brewed with cold brewed coffee. It certainly is good addition to the regular speedway stout. I enjoyed it.

On tap at Stout in Rochester, NY.

This pours a dark glossy black, with a small head, and a bit of lacing.

This one smells like fresh, brightly roasted coffee, so much espresso goodness, with a some chocolate, a hint of earthy tobacco, some light vanilla, and a hint of fruitiness.

Well fuck me, man, this is delicious. This is possibly the most coffee forward Speedway variant I've ever had- the addition of espresso bean really amps up the deliciousness here. I get fruit, tobacco, chocolate, and heavy roast out of this one, with some vanilla and roasted malt. This is essentially carbonated coffee.

This has a really really creamy mouthfeel, with a normal level of carbonation for the style.

This is probably only second to bottled Vietnamese for best Speedway variant. I am in awe here.

This is maybe the best non barrel aged stout I've ever had. How did they get that intensity of flavor, not to mention the 12%ABV, without the help of whiskey barrels? Super dark, strong coffee, some chocolate, lots of good roasty stout flavors. Terrific stuff.

On-tap at St. Gambrinus Beer Shoppe, Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a collar around the edge of the glass and a thin layer of bubbles on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of cold brewed coffee are present in the nose along with notes of associated fruit.
T: The taste has strong flavors of coffee along with notes of fruit and the underlying stout. The flavors of coffee beans are rather intense.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate was had a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is very nice for a coffee stout as it las lots of coffee and espresso flavors with no traces of alcohol. It tastes like a shot of fresh espresso up front and on the finish.

Serving type: on-tap
