Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tall Summit EPA glass. Bottled on 07/03/13.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear yellowish golden orange with a moderate amount of rising bubbles. Solid three fingers of off white head which slowly recede into a patchy and creamy layer. Leaves a lot of clingy lacing.

Smell: A fresh and juicy citrus hop forward aroma with some pine and bready malt. Citrus hops upfront with fruit hints of orange, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, apricot, tangerine, and lemon zest. Earthy hops with hints of spicey pine and grass. Solid backing of sweet bready malt with hints of biscuit, grains, cracker, yeast, and caramel. Leans towards the hops but still well balanced. Very solid aroma.

Taste: Like the nose indicates, a juicy hop forward taste with big citrus notes and some pine and sweet malt. Fresh and nicely bitter hops upfront with citrus fruit notes of orange, pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, apricot, and zesty lemon. Spicy pine resin notes along with some floral and earthy notes including grass. Balancing sweet bready malt presence with notes of biscuit, grains, caramel, crackers, and yeast. Bitter, juicy, and nicely balanced. A very solid West Coast style Pale Ale taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, crisp, and somewhat oily. Pretty smooth. Very drying.

Overall: A very good American Pale Ale. Almost like an IPA with the big hop presence but enough sweet malt balance to smooth it out.

Pours clear-ish gold with pure white creamy head of about 2 fingers that slowly dissipates and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit, pine, and something spicy that I'm not sure of. Taste is not fruity at all, bitter, spice in the nose turns out to be oniony kind of thing that finally gets piney for a split second, then sweetens up with some malt at the end. Has a lingering bitterness that is enjoyable. Mouthfeel is just ok. Overall, being my first Alesmith beer, I'm a little disappointed.
