At The Blind Tiger, NYC; the sign said 'Alesmith Pale Ale', but since this is the only 'pale ale' on the list, I'll assume that I was drinking X, as it certainly tasted like an American Pale Ale. Into a mug, poured a cloudy, non-carbonated golden yellow, with two fingers of bright white head, with great head retention and lacing. Smelled of lemon zest, orange peel, grains of paradise, grapefruit, and spearmint. The flavor was excellent; lemon, apple, grapefruit dissolving to a dry menthol, lemon zest, orange peel finish. Slightly on the thin side, but very smooth and aided by great head retention. I could have drunk this all night long.

a: hazy golden yellow with some darker orange notes rising up the sides of the glass. 2 finger marshmallow white head.
s: cascade & columbus hops. pineapple, sweet lemons, light toffee, juicy mango, huge amounts of freshly baked dough
t: taste is much different than the aroma. the hops i'm tasting, which hit you first, are oniony & garlic. dank 'cat piss' like flavors. those fade to some bitter grapefruit, piney bark, and fresh citrus. ends bready & bitter
m: medium with just enough carbonation to pop those amarillo-like flavors
o: don't love it. the flavors taste a bit all over the place in here....something just isn't working with another one of the flavors. i think when you have the garlic-like hop flavors you need to balance it out with something sweet. however here your just hit with bitterness. not enough balance. i will say it is probably a good beer to pair with a salad or sharp cheese

Location: The Craftsman
Glassware: Cigar City Pint
Appearance: Very blonde with a small head. The beer laces very nicely.
Aromatics: A very nice fruit smell. Lots of piney hops.
Flavor: To be honest, I was a little taken back by how piney it was. Wasn't expecting it from an APA. The mouthfeel was smooth.
Finish: The hops stayed on for the finish.
Serving type: on-tap
