Commemorating our 20th Anniversary and the creation of our new brewery, we pay homage to the ol' days by introducing our first ever barrel-aged blend. Reforged 20th Anniversary Ale is a triple-barrel fusion of our three original high-gravity beers: Wee Heavy (Scotch Ale), Speedway Stout (Imperial Stout w/coffee), and Old Numbskull (Barley wine). A proprietary blend was carefully established by AleSmith's elite Sensory Team of BJCP Beer Judges and Brew Team members. The result: A 100% barrel-aged brew which balances the oaky, rich flavors of bourbon with Wee Heavy's vanilla notes, Speedway's chocolatey coffee layers, and Old Numbskull's caramel undertones. Share and celebrate this exclusive specialty with friends and family now or age at a cool temperature to enhance the beer's numerous complexities. Cheers to twenty years!

Had on tap at Alesmith. Excellent beer but not a significantly different flavor or overall profile from the beers that created it. Great beer but nothing particularly new or special if you've had all the 3 beers that went into it.

Had a cellared bottle. Very dark brown with a dark tan head that fades. Super oaky in the nose, with accenting chocolate, caramel, burnt toffee, light roast coffee, smoke, leather and vanilla. Taste is not as complex, but does have a nice tobacco and earth element to the mix, very woody, with caramel and chocolate booze, ends sweeter but not sweet. Feel is very warm with booze, rustic, thick, chewy, a sipper for sure!

Poured from a bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Dark, dark brown pour... nearly black with thin off-white head. Nice ring of lacing.
S: Complex and boozy. Bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate... picking up elements of the 3 base beers.
T.F: Rich... smooth and creamy. Big barrel flavor with bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Roasted grains and caramel sugars and sweetness. It nicely picks up elements of the stout, wee-heavy, and barley wine. The coffee is very light... barely noticeable. Mild chocolate... tobacco and molasses. Medium bodied. Did I mention smooth? ABV well hidden... very drinkable.
O: An outstanding anniversary brew and they did a fantastic job of blending 3 classic beers into something new and unique. Well worth picking up if you can find it. Alesmith does great work.

The only knock on this is that it might be too smooth. Seriously. It is a few years old though.
The SS mostly takes a back seat next to the others, and given the lack of bitterness it seems closest to Wee Heavy. It's chock-full of all those toffee and tobacco flavors with some chocolate notes as well. Bourbon through and through but never any harshness to it. An artful blend.

Description: Dark brown appearance, almost black, with just a slight head and smooth, glassy look. Smell is sweet with fruit notes and not only dark fruits. Oak, bourbon, chocolate are also apparent, giving the nose a fair amount of depth. The taste echoes the smell with rich hits of bourbon, chocolate and dark fruit that meld into a sweet finish. Feel is a little thinner than I expected but is probably appropriate for the style. Carbonation is low.
Overall: 4.25 (This beer is good and I would likely drink it again) Deep aromas and flavors here that are hard to pin down to any one style, which I guess is the point for a beer that's been blended from three different styles. Maybe a bit more barleywine / wee heavy than a stout. Everything about this was very good, it just didn't quite have any GREAT features. Still, a beer well worth drinking if you can find it.
