1 pint 6 ounce bottle
Served in an imperial nonic pint glass
A - It is a really, really dark amber. It's as dark as amber can get without being brown. It was topped off with about three inches of tan head.
S - I was pleasantly surprised by the citrus aroma. Hints of grapefruit and pine waft towards my nostrils. There is also a bready malt character the balances it.
T - It starts out with a great hops kick. The grapefruit and pine are close to IPA strength. The malt tends to get lost in the fray. But it is not overly hoppy. It's a hopped up amber ale. The aftertaste leaves me with a dull, lingering bitterness.
M - Medium. I detect a little chalkiness.
O - I had never heard of this beer. I stumbled across it three days ago and figured what the heck? It's Valentine's Day, and I'm cheesy with pairing beers and days of (in)significance. Being a product of Alesmith made it a safe gamble. It is an enjoyable hoppy amber/red ale.
