2011 750ml into my deschutes snifter.
a - pours black with a finger's worth of dense, rocky, light brown head. retention is great, takes half the life of the glass to calm to a thin film. leaves thick swaths of lacing in it's wake.
s - faint roasted malt and coffee. gives very little hint of the huge flavors in the beer.
t - massive freshly roasted coffee flavor! dark chocolate notes crop up as does raisin and molasses. coffee like bitterness comes in at the end and finishes very dry. alcohol taste is well hidden.
m - fuller in body but never thick or syrupy. adequate carbonation with a finer co2 profile. very smooth with no noticeable alcohol character.
o - a fantastic beer and extremely drinkable given that it's 12%. the booze does kick in a little towards the end of the glass but i think i have more of a caffeine buzz than anything else. pairs well with vanilla base iced creams; in this case, michigan deer traxx. worthy of it's reputation.
