750mL bottle poured into taster - 2010 vintage
Pours a viscous blackness with a froth of coffee-stained bubbly head. Retains for a while before fading out into some thick film, leaving a few patchy spots of lacing.
Amazingly, there's still a pretty heavy notion of coffee in the nose. Roasted beans with a hint of char, heavy dark malts and chocolate sweetness. Rich scents finish off with a mellow glow of alcohol.
Burly, bold flavors right up front with roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Heavy duty malt backbone with rich complexity and tempered sweetness. Caramel and bready notes with a hint of vanilla and roasted malt. The coffee beans and chocolate return again towards the finish, which delivers a soft, smooth boozy warmth.
Fuller body, decent carbonation, a little chewy and sticky on the tongue. This bottle was around 2 years old and was holding up nicely, although I think it might be even better when it's fresh.
