Jet Black, with an off-white head. Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramel malt flavors. Clean and crisp, full- bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel. You won't fool your taste buds - this beer is HUGE!

From a 750 ml bottle (bottled on August 15, 2013) into a snifter.

A-A normal to aggressive pour produces nearly two fingers of medium-brown foam. The retention is decent with the head dropping to a thick cap after a minute and to a patchy cap in the minute thereafter. The lacing on the glass is thick and substantial. The beer is pretty much opaque black.

S-The scent is smooth, but intense, with dark chocolate, a milky-mild sweetness, a touch of smoke, and, obviously, nicely roasted coffee. This brew is unique for the freshness and smoothness of its coffee flavor. It really smells like coffee...not old, burnt coffee or Sanka or whatever. Alcohol is incredibly well-disguised. I get just a bit of warming sensation; nothing more.

T-The taste follows the smell pretty closely. I taste smooth, lightly bitter, Italian/French roast coffee, dark chocolate, a hint of milk, some burnt caramel, and a bit of warming alcohol. The brew is nicely concentrated with a real coffee flavor and very light hops. Alcohol is really well integrated and provides just a bit warmth to an otherwise smooth brew.

M-The feel is lighter than many of this style, but it works. The carbonation is mild to moderate and the presence on the palate is pleasing and substantial, but not overly syrupy.

O-This beer falls into the the do-one-thing-well-and-do-it-really-well category. The coffee flavor here tastes the most realistic and least acidic/burnt/fake of any coffee stout (or double stout) I have ever had. Although the brew is not as complex as some, I will happily trade that artificial complexity for a beer as focused and well-done as this one.

750 ml bottle, bottled on 9/3/13. Pours dark brown black with a medium creamy brown head that retains well and laces the glass some.

The aroma is roasted, grainy, fudgy, chocolate with a little coffee.

The flavor is bitter roast, grains, chocolate, black licorice, a little dark fruit and some light roast coffee. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, solid imperial stout. This bottle seems lighter on the coffee than other samples I've had.

750ml bottle purchased at Pinocchio's in Media, PA a little while back. Poured into a Chimay goblet.

AP: Basically black like oil with a 1/2" thick frothy tan head and good lacing on the sides. Head fizzled to 1/8" while I let this one warm up a bit.
AR: Chocolate, roast malt, black bread, molasses and roast coffee, though the coffee aroma isn't as prominent as I was expecting from a Coffee Stout. Soft hints of dark fruits and vanilla in the background.
T: Like the nose, the coffee isn't as prominent as I was expecting. It's there, but a subtle way. The main flavours are molasses, bitter chocolate and roasted malts. It has secondary flavours of German chocolate cake and vanilla cream. Mellow note of coffee roast on the finish with a slight bitterness that makes me think of those little baking Hershey Kisses that weren't the regular ones. A tasty Stout with the 12% ABV well hidden, so well done on those counts, but I'm not getting enough coffee for a Stout that says on the label "Imperial Stout with coffee".
M: Low carbonation, nice thick fairly full body with a creamy texture and mouthfeel. A bit silky on the palate and a pretty clean finish for an Imperial Stout.
OV: Pretty much everything about this beer was spot on expect for the coffee flavour, which if you're going to spell out 'with coffee' on the label then IMO it should be bolder in the taste. Plus I love coffee flavour so I like a good amount of it, but it's at best a subtle mild addition here. A very well done and solid Imperial Stout, just not totally what it was advertised to be.

A - a nice dark almost black opaque color with a thick head of brown foam that sticks around. Nice Lacing.

S - Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, cherry, vanilla, cream, caramel.

T - Roasted malt, espresso, coffee, chocolate, alcohol, but at 12% what would I expect.

M - Alc present, but at 12% and brewed July of this year I can't knock it for that. Thick mouthfeel. Aftertaste is roasty coffee and alcohol.

O - Huh, not as good as I thought it would be, but that might be strictly due to lack of age. I'll have to hit up my local craft beer store (this one was a whole foods buy) to look for an older bottle.
