Notes/Commercial Description:
Jet Black, with an off-white head. Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramel malt flavors. Clean and crisp, full- bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel. You won't fool your taste buds - this beer is HUGE!

dark black licorice in color. pours with little brown head. seems to leave little to none lacing residue, good taste, hint of coffee at end, good damn beer if you're into stouts..not as tangy as i would like with a stout, however i prefer more of a tang in the mid-taste range myself. overall smooth drinking stout with lots of flavor. a little pricey at $12 a pint, however you're getting what u pay for

750ml bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours a fairly thick looking solid black. A healthy looking dark brown head develops and reaches about a finger and half to two fingers before settling in as a thin tan cap. There is some nice lacing left on the glass. It's wispy and doesn't really cling to the glass but it covers pretty well.

The nose is very roasty, even a bit of char. A nice coffee aroma comes through, especially as the beer warms. When the beer is chilled a bit there is a bit of some dark chocolate that comes through. As it warms it the coffee and roasted notes seem to take over and they make the beer seem really big, which is something I usually get from taste and mouthfeel, rather than the nose.

The taste follows closely with the nose. When chilled it's very roasty with a ton of coffee and hints of some dark chocolate. The roastiness come across at the beginning and, like the nose, it's almost a burnt or charred character. A slight sweetness and a chocolate note seem to level it out before a huge coffee presence and a good bitterness take over the finish. Really nice.

This is a pretty big stout. There is very little carbonation and it works really well here. There is some nice bitterness with each sip but nothing that lingers.

This is an excellent beer. It's the rare stout that seems to be better a bit chilled. Normally a chilled stout that has a pronounced coffee note defeats the purpose but the roasty qualities are more dominant than the coffee. When the beer is chilled it mutes the roast a bit and allows the coffee to show through.

Held on to this in the cellar for 4 months. The coffee probably faded but....WTF. Poured from a 750ml bomber bought from Jungle Jims in Cincy.

Pours jet black/slight brown with a nice thick brown head. Really good presentation.

Smells delicious!!! I am blown away by how good this one smells. Far exceeded my expectations.
Big chocolate and espresso with nice roasted malts. Didn't really smell alcohol?

Flavors of Dark chocolate and coffee bitters hit you right away. This is one tasty SOB! Alcohol is there, but doesn't seem like 12%. Great roasted malt and a tad of vanilla can be detected. I would love to try the BA version of this!

Very thick beer, huge body, oily, with a nice aftertaste. Carbs are spot on.

One of my favorite RIS's so far. Well done Ale Smith. Now please distribute in Indiana!

Growler purchased at the fridge 5/20/12, opened 1 hour later. Notes take then.

Poured into a DFH Signature Snifter

Pours a very nice creamy, frothy ¼’, dark tan head, with brief length, and good lace.

The aroma has a very, very light hop character which is followed by very distinct, rich malt, with medium chocolate and dark unsweetened chocolate. Vinous and yeast smells, with black bread.
A very enjoyable malt dominated nose.

Medium crisp, vinous, and rich entry on the palate of very, very light hops, followed by very distinct, deep, exceptionally rich malt, refined, caramel, chocolate and dark unsweetened chocolate. Rich mouth presence with bitter chocolate. Black ale yeast and dark bread.
Very full bodied, creamy, and viscous, with a fine balanced carbonation and an off dry sweetness.
Smooth rich drink, dry and bitter.

Medium long acceptable finish, with no hop presence, but a rich malt presence dominates. Surprisingly dry finish.

A very good ale, with good complexity and nice dryness. Flavorful malt, smooth.

This Sixtal had been disconnected and reconnected, so may have lost something? I don’t know.
A very, very good ale but not exceptional.
Recommend a test drive non the less.

Had this on 2012-05-17 in Columbia, PA

A - Opaque dark brown-black with a 2-finger light brown head and rich lacing.

S - Rich chocolate, espresso, molasses, dried black currant and dark roasted grain. Very nice smell even when initially served a bit to cool.

T - Sweet dark roasted grain, bitter chocolate, coffee, earthy spice, metallic, chalky, alcohol. The very long-lasting aftertaste is leafy, sweet/sour, dark-roasty and with significant bitterness.

M - Medium body and light carbonation. Creamy, rich but not as thick as I'd like. Some alcohol heat.

O - It's a good Imperial Stout but for my tastes, not in the same top-tier as Parabola, CBS, King Henry or Marshall Zhukov's.

750 bomber, bottled 2012

*100th review!

A- Pours an opaque jet black with a little over a finger of creamy mocha head with good retention. When brought up to the light can see tiny carbonation bubbles quickly rising along the side of the glass, definitely a little bit more carbonation then your average stout. Slight lacing.

S- Distinct smell of fresh espresso beans mixed with dark chocolate and some malts and booze hiding in the background.

T- Creamy espresso mixed with notes of dark chocolate nibs and a little bit of booze in the background. Nice sweet chocolate aftertaste.

M- Nice and creamy and smooth, not too syrupy. Medium bodied to a little bit heavy. Can definitely tell the alcohol is there, but goes down incredibly smooth for a beer of this abv. Very little alcohol burn. Not too much carbonation.

O- This was a great imperial stout, definitely one of my favorites. Everything about this beer was great- great espresso smell, nice sweet espresso/chocolate taste without being overly sweet, and an awesome creamy mouthfeel without getting too much of syrupy feel or alcohol burn. Great job by Alesmith. Would love to try the BA versions. At $17/bomber, this beer was a little bit pricey but definitely worth it.
