Notes/Commercial Description:
Jet Black, with an off-white head. Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramel malt flavors. Clean and crisp, full- bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel. You won't fool your taste buds - this beer is HUGE!

Poured into NB Globe.

A: this stout looks sexy, pitch black viscous appearance, generous 2 fingers of cocoa colored head, nice retention and tons of lacing. No light passes through.

S: nose is rich with chocolate, coffee, molasses, and a hint of licorice. A quick flash of earthy hops present themselves towards the finish. The coffee seems tame, not sure if this bottle has some age on it or not, but I would imagine the coffee has faded a bit.

T: the taste is smooth, starts with huge roasted malts and dark chocolate, subtle coffee is present throughout along with cream accents. The taste finishes with roastiness. Great balance.

MF: thick, creamy, smooth, low carbonation

O: at 12%, this beer is big, but it is also damn tasty and incredibly well balanced. Delicious.

Black with a short lived tan head and plenty of lace. Earthy chocolate aroma. One of the softest mouthfeels I've had from a bottle. Rich body. Lots of dried fruit throughout. The alcohol middle to finish overwhelms the malt. Nice bitterness with a bit of burnt sugar and coffee present in the aftertaste. I let this sit about 9 months before I opened it. It could have used more time to mellow.

750ml bottle into Duvel tulip. Picked this bottle up in MA a few months ago.

Appearance: Free pour yields a one inch dark tan froth that doesn't move for a long time. Pours black and is very leggy with lots of spotty lacing.

Smell: From the bottle, smells bold and well integrated (coffee and caramel malt). Hopes are set high.

In the glass, it's amazing. Coffee, tons of malt depth, molasses, caramel. Stays potent throughout the bottle. I haven't smelled a beer this deep and good since Port's Older Viscosity. Rich, complex, assertive; excellent. The nose makes some big promises.

Taste: Smooth, amazing integration of coffee and molasses, roasted malt, caramel, vanilla. Creamy feel elevates these flavors. Caramel note is like eating straight caramel, way more defined than the average big malty beer.

Beautiful savory and sweet balance. This beer is like dinner and dessert combined, and both of them were expensive. Some mild soy sauce notes, tons of coffee ice cream and vanilla, caramel, with a building alcohol heat that doesn't get in the way of any of the other flavors.

Slightly reminiscent of the Bruery's Cuir in its depth and balance of savory molasses flavors with sweet decadence and satisfying booziness. Hard to believe this is a year round beer.

Mouthfeel: Light side of full bodied. Maximally creamy, like a great oatmeal stout. Low to moderate carbonation. Never even remotely sugary; a 12% ABV stout that's properly attenuated.

Overall: This beer is a masterpiece. The kind of thing people talk up, you think "well it can't be *that* good," and then you try it, forget the hype, and bask in how excellent it is.
