Notes/Commercial Description:
Jet Black, with an off-white head. Starts with a strong coffee and dark chocolate sensation, then fades to a multitude of toasty, roasty and caramel malt flavors. Clean and crisp, full- bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content lightens up the feel. You won't fool your taste buds - this beer is HUGE!

Fills the tulip with an absolute jet black body and a creamy and dense tan head. A healthy amount of sticky lace leaves rings around the glass.

Coffee is right up front on the nose. A fair amount of brown sugar and caramel sweetness goes along with this. Surprisingly not as roasty as expected.

First sip is packed full of flavor with the coffee really coming through and paired up with a heavy amount of roasty/toasty malt goodness. Pleasantly sweet as the aroma had suggested.

Thick and a bit chewy on the mouthfeel. Not much heat coming from the alcohol as its pretty well disguised. Overall, a truly exceptional imperial stout but one thats hard to pull the trigger on at $15+ per bottle.

I poured this near black into a 21st Amendment tulip. Decent with adequate head very nice lace.
The initial taste was burnt dark chocolate. Mouth fills with rich creamy flavors of chocolate and coffee. Burning alcohol in the mouthfeel and aftertaste. Delicious. A real sipper full of complexity.

750ml bottle poured into a large snifter.

A: Pours inky black with a one inch tan head. Retention is decent. Lacing is small and spotty.

S: Heavy chocolate fudge, suggestions of vanilla bean, slight woody scent, rich and earthy aroma of roasted coffee beans in the background, plum, raspberry and blackberry esters, and some spicy alcohol.

T: Chocolate fudge and roasted coffee beans open. Roasted malt tastes of wood and char provide an acrid edge. Plum and blackberry darkfruit in the background. A spicy alcohol presence rears its head toward the end, but stops just short of being hot. Dry finish of bakers chocolate and a kiss pf smoke.

M: Very rich, full, and creamy. Luscious and velvety, even. Chewy. Very little carbonation. Great mouthfeel.

O: It took me a little while to settle in and fully appreciate the complexity of this beer. It's so big and robust, yet it remains delicate, nuanced, and even subtle at times. One hell of a dessert beer.

Notes: A good six months in the cellar tamed the alcohol presence just enough. I look forward to trying some with more age on them in the future.

I had this on Nitro pour at Al's of Hampden served in a snifter.

The color is black as pitch with small medium brown cap with ultra fine bead, the head returns with a swirl and retreats again. Clarity is opaque and lace sticks decently. The smell is luscious dark chocolate mixed with espresso and some vanilla with light hints of dark sugar. The feel is very good, not bad on Nitro with thick viscous creamy body and mild alcohol with subtle bitterness and smooth roast essence, the finish is medium dry.

The flavor is rich like brownie batter with spiked coffee and vanilla with slight rum-like dark sugar tinge. The flavor of the coffee is well blended with the smooth mildly sweet dark malt which is slightly cocoa-like and has a hint of earthy peppery hops to back up the light caramel. Overall I loved this and didn't want to stop, but alas a 12% stout that is this drinkable is dangerous. I think this is one of the best of this style a must try if you can get it on tap or in this case Nitro.

Big black beer and moderate brown head with okay retention. Cocoa and light roasty aroma. Big coffee flavor up front belies the aroma and quickly evens out to a chocolate sweetness. A fairly long coffee linger with light herbal notes. There’s a sharp acidic bite with a robust, fuzzy mouthfeel.

A simple yet very rich flavor showcases the flavors available. It’s 12% and there’s no alcohol in the taste and just a gentle warming. A very big beer that’s very easy to drink. The only thing is the coffee used seems to make this one a little too acidic and there really was very little aroma to speak of.
