A: Orange copper body with two fingers of thick clumpy sea foam looking head. Great lacing and head retention.

S: Tropical fruits, grapefruit, pine and caramel.

T: Big sweet fruity burst of flavor. Pine resin on the backend with a nice balance of malt thru out.

M: Medium body with good carbonation. Oily feel to it with a long dry bitter finish.

O: Just another great west coast IPA. Tasted too good to savor, so my notes are short, but you should seek this out if you're lookin for a great easy drinkin IPA.

Thanks for helping me knock this off the Beers of Fame list ehammond1!

From time to time i will have a beer that is so flavorful, luscious and intense that i find myself feeling guilty for not really questioning it or for just wanting to give in to the Vox Populi without doing any real in-depth tasting. This is perhaps my most glaring case of this.

Trying my best to over compensate, i can still only find faults in the appearance and aroma - That, while gorgeous, is a bit rough around the edges and lacking in depth when you compare it to other American IPAs. I should also point out how the last third of the bottle feels like a totally different (but equally awesome) beer. The yeast adds some welcomed earthy undertones and the 'bite' balances out the sweetness revealing elite Craftsmanship.

If somehow the guys at AleSmith managed to add slightly more depth and a more sophisticated aroma, we would be looking at a contender for the perfect IPA award.

Pretty awesome, indeed.

DESCRIPTORS: Exotic fruit, Flower, Caramel, Pine, Citrus. Sweet-ish finish. Medium Full bodied. Medium bitterness.

I got this beer from a BIF and I was really excited to open it up. We don't Alesmith in New Jersey.

I poured this into a fluted glass. The IPA is orange with with plentiful sticky foam on top.

I smell a lot of pine and some citrus. There is even a little lemon in there.

The flavor is like a stock San Diego IPA. THe flavor is good, but not the ridiculous 'over the top' beer that I have read about on the boards. I'm sure it would be tough for any beer to live up to the expectations that the reviews have left.

I would get this beer again if it was easy to find. It was a pretty good IPA.

22oz bottle from j47paco (thanks Juan!). No bottling info. Served in a Wild Heaven snifter.

Pours brilliant orange with a full frothy one finger head. Nice beads of lace.

Smells of crisp grapefruit and tangerine. Oh so inviting!

A bright hop explosion of grapefruit, pine, orange zest, pineapple and a touch of peppery spice with a pleasant noticeable biscuit backing. An excellent blend of tropical yet bitter hops

Oily slick medium body with a good bit of zesty carbonation. Nice citrus hoppy finish.

Wow! This is a truly outstanding IPA that I'd choose over several even double/ imperials (and I'm typically an 8%+ abv drinker). For my money this is what an IPA should be.

22oz Bomber - thanks to jfam for this

Appearance - Slightly hazy dark amber/copper colour with a small size fizzy white coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for only a few minutes.

Smell - Malts, caramel, hops, grapefruit

Taste & Mouth - There is a low amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel and some hops. There is also a bit of tangerine and grapefruit. It ends with a malty sweet aftertaste with a medium amount of lingering hop bitterness.

Overall - There has to be something wrong with my bottle.. it's almost like it's from a cask. There was no head, and the beer is basically flat. I can tell that the beer has some promise, but this is not what I was expecting. I see no code/date on the bottle. Oh well, I'll try to re-review, but I'll probably just end up buying sculpin instead.

Edit ***

Had another bottle Nov 2012 from Bear World Watertown NY for 7.99 - Great carbonation and taste, lots of hops. This might be the first time I've had it reasonably fresh. However, the price and no dating still irks me. If this was available in 6 packs and had a bottle date, it might be unstoppable.

A: Poured from a 22oz. bomber bottle into a 16oz. tulip glass. Poured clear, the color of hay, with a beautiful white, 2-finger head that left some sticky lacing all the way down. Effervescent and inviting.

S: A beautiful, balanced aroma with some strong notes of Oak, Vanilla, Citrus, Pine and Flowers. This nose is delicate, inviting, and aromatic.

T: The beer hits you with a peppery front on the tongue, and then transitions to a woodsy middle and a hoppy swallow. The flavors are well aligned, and not conflicting with a balance of lightness in the mouth and a heavy-ish after-tatse that lingers.. Other notes of cedar, pine boughs, earth, grass, and sediment.

M: Chewy, with a loaminess that belies its crisp, filtered appearance. This beer has a distinct presence, with some bubbles to give it a lighter texture, but overall, it's a beer that sits low in your mouth.

O: Delicious, but don't buy looking for an overwhelming hop flavor. The hops in this one are buried, and discrete. The first impression isn't particularly strong, but the subtle notes and flavors sneak up on you just at the right moment of enjoyment.

A: medium amber body with a finger+ of off-white foam from a center pour into a tulip. Left some lace drapings.

S: piney and citrusy hops over a malty base

T: follows nose: classic IPA hop profile, lots of delicious bitter hops, suggestive of fresh pine and fresh rain in a grassy field; citrusy grapefruit; clean fresh malty flavors, with just enough sugars to balance out the hops into a well-balanced beer.

M: medium-to-light bodied, brisk carbonation; overall, crisp and refreshing, just a touch of nice chewiness; great drinkability

O: a well-crafted, snapshot profile of an American IPA by one of America's great craft brewers. So easy to drink, and fairly easy to find.
