Enjoyed this beer from cask at Small Bar in SD. I liked it much better than in bottle, and even regular tap.

A - Very fine carbonation as a cask beer. Slightly cloudy (cask beer!), hazy orange gold body. It had a very fluffy white head with great retention and lace. When first poured, it looked like it was on nitro, the carbonation was so fine and took so long to settle.

S - Nice, bright citrus aroma followed by piney fresh woody hops.

T - It had a very strong grapefruit bitterness, and piney notes at the front, followed by a style appropriate bitterness, and a nice lingering piney hop aftertaste.

M - As a cask pour, it had very fine and nice conbonation.

O - On cask, it is a very nice and solid IPA that can hold it's own to Pliney and others. (Like many of this style, I DO wish it were lower in alcohol though.)

Looks like I'm ushering this beer into the Beers of Fame list with the 1000th review! Welcome to the club!

Bottled: unk

Pours honey with an etched surface and soapy white rim. Notes of grapefruit, honey, biscuit, resin, peach and a bit of grass; relatively malt forward for a CA IPA. Flavor is sweet and honey like. Not particularly bitter, plenty of lemon and tangerine, but nothing particularly assertive. I think the malts are overpowering in this example, and the bitterness needs a bit of help queuing up. Medium bodied with nice, slightly hi and sharp carb and an off dry finish. Decent beer, and I'd suggest it to an IPA newcomer. I wouldn't suggest it to a tried hop-head. Too much malty sweetness is similar to the 90min IPA.

A - Nice carbonation in the glass. Crystal clear, bright orange gold body. Nice fluffy white head with great retention and lace.

S - Bright citrus fruit with a kick of mango and fresh woody hops.

T - Green plant stem and grapefruit bitterness. Kaffir lime center with a light bready backdrop. Dry back end with a somewhat dusty hop character.

M - Bubbly, dry, medium/light frame.

O - A solid IPA with a few endearing imperfect edges.

bomber into 2012 SAVOR tulip. no bottled on date.

A: hazy orange body. pale orange. large and small off white bubbles comprise a dense head. good retention and nice lacing.

S: citrus rinds. cantaloupe. earthy, green tea. enough malt to lend some sweet notes. reminds me a little of vanilla.

T: very fruity. a little minty even. certainly some kind of hop herbal-ness is definitely there. some yeasty esters show their head from sip to sip. i find some of the bitterness a little astringent, especially as it lingers into the finish.

M: ample carbonation, looks like this thing was bottle conditioned.

D: good, just not blown away. i wish this thing had a best before or bottled on date to give me a better idea of freshness. regardless, gotta go off of what i have in the glass and while this is certainly not a bad IPA, just not as great as what i would expect from a san diego brewery.

My first AleSmith offering. 22oz bottle poured into a pint glass on 8/26/12.

Appearance: Translucent light amber with a generous two finger head. Head retained well and provided some sticky lacing.

Smell: Orange peel, grass, and a light pine hop aroma. Smells like a nice balance of hops.

Taste: Light citrus hops pair with a pale malt backbone. Finishes with more pine and resin character, with just a tad of stickiness. Very accessible and not too much of one thing in this brew.

Mouthfeel: Shines on this beer with a light body, smoothness, and perfect crispness.

Overall: Really great IPA that is super drinkable and one of the most balanced IPAs I've had in a while.

A Poured a nice golden color with a big white foamy head and light lacing

S: Nose was moderate. Smelled of citrus, floral accents and wonderful fresh hops.

T: Taste was citrus with a floral blast backed with some light caramel malt
finished with a bite of bitterness.

M: Medium bodied, well carbonated

O: Revisited this after three years and I am downgrading. My palate is much more refined after the plethora of brews I have consumed. Whole not bad, still not the staple IPA for me. However, it is one clean beer!

Thanks Mrbubbler!

Appearance. Pours a hazy gold with a little amber and a 1.5 finger, thick and sticky, off-white head.

Smell. Ruby red grapefruit rinds, toasty malt and a little yeast. Smells goood (that's right, three "o"'s!!).

Taste. Lots of the good citrusy hops and some nice toasty malts. A little cedar and pine.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, medium-low carbonation.

Overall. A very good ipa. I could, and would drink a ton of this if I could get it around here!
