In the bottle the aroma surged restrained grapefruit pine. Poured it quickly revealed a golden orangy sparkle and a one inch pretty dense head which just so slightly gave a sheen of an off light mustard colour. Quite traslucent the fine waving columns of beading retained the head.

In the mouth there is some huskiness, some silk, a hint of almost buttery malt yet there us also a leanness here which is fully supported by the weight of the substance.. The flawless balance marries perfectly with the long tight penetrating delicious bitterness. Some marmalade in there as well.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter. No bottled on date that I can see on the bottle.

A- Pours a nice and cloudy dark orange with a small amount of head that quickly fades to some bubbly froth along the sides of the glass.

S- Smells great, lots of citrus and floral notes. Aromas of grapefruit and orange are most notable to me.

T- Very interesting in the taste in that I usually get the hop hit first when drinking IPAs. This one starts off smooth and slightly sweet with some great malt characters. The back end of the sip is dominated by the hops. Unlike the citrus in the smell, I don't really get that in the taste. The hop taste for me is very piney.

M- Light and easy drinking. Alcohol is well hidden. Nicely carbonated and well hopped.

A great IPA. It's been sitting in my fridge for about 3 weeks so I'm sure it's not even on the top of its game in regards to freshness too. Good stuff though and a nice easy drinker.

A - Crystal clear, pale orange. Just a touch of amber haze. Thick, slightly off white head. Nice lacing all the way down. Everything I've come to expect from a great IPA.

S - Nice strong aroma, of citrusy, floral hops, with a touch of pine at the end. Also some sweet malt mixed in. A slight alcohol smell at the end.

T - Very much like the smell, but with quite a bitter punch too. Bitterness doesn't linger very long though. Definitely leans towards the citrusy / grapefruit flavor combo, with less of the piney notes. Picking up on a slight spicy, medicinal, minty aftertaste. Caramel malts are nice, fresh and clean and definitely present to make a good backbone. Not super complex, very well balanced.

M - Very clean and crisp. Not too thick, not too thin, creamy. Pretty light carbonation.

O - A very nice example of a hoppy and bitter, yet well balanced IPA. I appreciate the malts that are going on here, though I tend to prefer a little less bitterness and a little more complexity to the hop aroma/flavors - so it doesn't quite reach the status of my all-time favorites. Definitely recommend and would get it again.

A - Honey colored with a thick white head. Nice lacing left on the glass.

S - Yes! Grapefruit, pineapple, and not sure what kind of hops it is but reminds me of Amarillo.

T - Not quite as much citrus as I was expecting. Starts of with a bitter tingle that perfectly blends hops and malts into a clean, smooth after taste.

M - Very crisp and carbonated. Drinks pretty light for an IPA.

O - A great example of an IPA that is bitter, but knows exactly where to draw the line.

Alesmith IPA

Pours slightly hazy golden color with very minimal bubbles. Chunky two finger off whit head

Aromas of sticky pine citrus and sweet tropical fruit.

Bunch of hop bitterness throughout with some citrus rind bitterness. Waiting for the fruit notes but never quite make it on the palate. There's something missing. Too hop forward, there's just not a sweet note in it.

Overall- it's okay. I got it in a trade. If I saw it on a shelf I wouldn't buy it.
Just waiting for that extra something at the end that doesn't happen.
