bomber into 2012 SAVOR tulip. no bottled on date.

A: hazy orange body. pale orange. large and small off white bubbles comprise a dense head. good retention and nice lacing.

S: citrus rinds. cantaloupe. earthy, green tea. enough malt to lend some sweet notes. reminds me a little of vanilla.

T: very fruity. a little minty even. certainly some kind of hop herbal-ness is definitely there. some yeasty esters show their head from sip to sip. i find some of the bitterness a little astringent, especially as it lingers into the finish.

M: ample carbonation, looks like this thing was bottle conditioned.

D: good, just not blown away. i wish this thing had a best before or bottled on date to give me a better idea of freshness. regardless, gotta go off of what i have in the glass and while this is certainly not a bad IPA, just not as great as what i would expect from a san diego brewery.

My first AleSmith offering. 22oz bottle poured into a pint glass on 8/26/12.

Appearance: Translucent light amber with a generous two finger head. Head retained well and provided some sticky lacing.

Smell: Orange peel, grass, and a light pine hop aroma. Smells like a nice balance of hops.

Taste: Light citrus hops pair with a pale malt backbone. Finishes with more pine and resin character, with just a tad of stickiness. Very accessible and not too much of one thing in this brew.

Mouthfeel: Shines on this beer with a light body, smoothness, and perfect crispness.

Overall: Really great IPA that is super drinkable and one of the most balanced IPAs I've had in a while.

A Poured a nice golden color with a big white foamy head and light lacing

S: Nose was moderate. Smelled of citrus, floral accents and wonderful fresh hops.

T: Taste was citrus with a floral blast backed with some light caramel malt
finished with a bite of bitterness.

M: Medium bodied, well carbonated

O: Revisited this after three years and I am downgrading. My palate is much more refined after the plethora of brews I have consumed. Whole not bad, still not the staple IPA for me. However, it is one clean beer!

Thanks Mrbubbler!

Appearance. Pours a hazy gold with a little amber and a 1.5 finger, thick and sticky, off-white head.

Smell. Ruby red grapefruit rinds, toasty malt and a little yeast. Smells goood (that's right, three "o"'s!!).

Taste. Lots of the good citrusy hops and some nice toasty malts. A little cedar and pine.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, medium-low carbonation.

Overall. A very good ipa. I could, and would drink a ton of this if I could get it around here!

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 5 | overall: 4

Appearance: Just a touch of haze with an amber color and two fingers of head that fades slowly with a curtain of lace.

Aroma: Mostly pine hops aroma with some lemon notes mixed in over a caramel malt background. Very crisp and fresh smelling.

Taste: The first hit is sweet malt, full-bodied and almost creamy leading to the arrival of the hop bitterness. It's an earthy bitterness with plenty of resinous pine hits, all with the sweet malt in play still. The bitterness lingers and mellows into the finish.

The Rest: A great IPA. Really good balance between the hop bitterness and the stout malt base.

Beer is a clear golden colour. Moderately sized white head, dissipates quickly but not completely. Some lace.

Pine resin in the nose, as well as citrus. Mainly grapefruit.

Taste is hoppy. Citrus focused, grapefruit and orange, with a bunch of sticky pine as well. Caramel malt provides a backbone but the focus of this beer is the hops.

Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, oily.

Overall, a good IPA. In my view, not the standout that its scores suggest. Without a freshness date, I guess it is possible that this bottle is a bit old and would be better fresher- though it tastes fine to me.
