On tap at O'Brien's for 2012 SDBW.

A: Deep, slick black with a ring of fine, medium dark brown head. No real lacing, but it retains the foam quite well. Almost like looking at an espresso.

S: Vanilla bean ice cream and just a little coconut. Medium roast coffee and dark chocolate take a backseat to the vanilla and coconut.

T: Full, round vanilla, moderate toasty coconut. They are awesome complements. Coffee and dark chocolate. The flavor washes over your palate and fades slowly away.

M: Silky, full bodied, sticky, with medium-light carbonation which works wonderfully with the body.

O: Oh my goodness, this is incredible. Melt in your mouth good. Peter described this as like drinking a Mounds bar. Seems apt enough to me.

On Tap

Night of a Million Zillion Speedways
O'Brien's Pub
San Diego, CA

Dark as night black with brown edges, thin head but the body of this beer is just spectacular. It's thick and oily and leaves the glass absolutely covered in sticky lace. Thick as can be and dark as night. Spectacular.

This is one of the finest smelling beers I've ever experienced. There is tremendous amounts of toasted coconut character along with lots of authentic, earthy yet sweet, vanilla. The typical roast and coffee notes are laying just underneath. Spectacular.

The flavor, if at all possible, is just as good as the aroma. The coconut and vanilla are so incredibly rich yet complementary. Other beers have paired these two flavors together before, but none have been quite as successful as this one. It's stellar. Incredibly drinkable, even at 12% ABV. A true feat, and a perfect imperial stout.

Thick, oily, luscious, decadent mouthfeel.

A mind-blowing beer. Phenomenal.

Pitch black with a oily glass coating oily viscosity. Short bubbly khaki head with fair retention and spotty lacing.

Bright amazing nose with notes up front of toasted coconut and rich vanilla bean with cocoa and coffee.

Flavor just can't be any better. Big bursting flavor with amazing toasted coconut, vanilla with rich chocolate and coffee undertones in perfect harmony and balance and just a touch of heat.

Mouthfeel is silky, creamy and viscous like maple syrup with mild carbonation.

This beer is just retarded good. Definitely my favorite one off I've had from them. The only thing that isn't perfect about this is that I don't have it flowing endlessly from my keggerator.

Full pint on tap at the Full Pint 5th Anniversary on a horribly muggy crowded evening at Naja's Place. This stuff is black like the normal Speedway, with a coffee colored small head with the potential of coconut floaties. I will not hold that against it. Aroma is a scent that can only be achieved through copious amounts of coconut not even possible to have in a large batch of beer, it mixes with the coffee to the point it doesn't really smell like coffee or dark malts, but just some kind of fragrant coconut nectar and fruity dark chocolate. The taste is a coconut elixir so fantastic it is unfair to compare to any mass produced beer. You will never taste coconut like this in large batches, it just isn't humanly possible. Even beers like CoCoNut Porter don't even begin to approach this. The coconut transforms the abundant coffee notes into chocolate milk nearly... the rough edges of dark malt and coffee smooth out enough that the richness of the beer softly caresses the palate in an overtly sensual manner. This is probably the best beer in the world, not sure but yeah it probably is.

On tap for the Full Pint's fif anniversary party at Najas. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours black with a fine mocha head which leaves spotty lace.

N: Initially the vanilla is dominant, but as it warms the interwoven coffee and coconut emerge and greet the vanilla in a most lovely dance.

T: Similar to the aroma. As warms the intense coconut and vanilla wrap around the coffee and just meld perfectly.

M: Full body and moderate carbonation. Rich, creamy, exquisite.

O: Nearly perfect in every way. One of my all-time top beers ever. Given 5 tickets I used my first two on this and looking back I should have gotten a few more. Unreal.

Had on tap at the 2011 BA speedway stout release

Look: Beautiful black body with a nice tan head about 1/4 and some decent retention and lacing

Smell: Upfront is the delicious hints of vanilla and coconut. The coconut is faint but it is there. You also pick up the hints of chocolate and coffee almost drowned out by the vanilla but it is there.

Taste: Pretty much the same as the smell. Upfront is the sweetness from vanilla and coconut which was just the right amount of sweetness and finished off perfectly with the hints of chocolate and coffee.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with little carbonation a slight warming sensation on the palate with a silky finish

Overall: This is my favorite to date speedway. I liked it better than the barrel aged and regular version. I really hope I get the chance to drink this again.

Edit: I had to come back and edit my review after having it on tap about 5 months after my original review. This beer is perfect in every way. Exceptional maybe the best speedway variation

On-tap at Naja's for The Full Pint's 5th Anniversary

As with all Speedway: the beer is black and has a tan head. Wow, what a nose. Lots of raw coconut and vanilla which play very nicely with the intense roast, coffee, and dark chocolate aromas of Speedway. The flavor is almost like chewing on fresh shredded coconut. Tons of vanilla to it as well. A nice sweetness of chocolate and toffee, plenty of roasted malt and coffee, too. Just a fantastic beer.

Best variation by far! Too bad they retired it.
