A: A semi-transparent cloudy honey color with a substantial off-white head that holds its own.
S: WOW! HOPS! And lots of them. Very citrusy and piney. My god am I excited.
T: The smell carries right on over to the taste. This beer is jam-packed with hops. Interestingly enough, I can't put my finger on any particular hop except perhaps cascade hops. The taste becomes bitter yet not too dry at the end with the malt coming through. This much hops may be hazardous to your health. The alcohol is disguised quite nicely.
M: Brilliant!! The mouthfeel is substantial with the CO2 nicely balanced. The hoppy overload prevents the dryness from sapping the body of the beer. Even though many different and strong flavors present themselves, the body of the beer stays consistent throughout.
D: I want to attack this beer full throttle but I just can't. The hops and alcohol prevent that. In between a sipper and a chugger. For what it is, very drinkable.
Ale Smith comes through again with a world class beer. Maybe they should put this on the shelves in winter too because I am drinking a Christmas tree (at least that's what it tastes like)!

Picked this up a few weeks back at the Whole Foods on Houston St. in New York City. The reviews for this were great and although I've had a zillion beers of this style, there's something about a good Imperial/Double IPA that I can't resist. That was the case here as the balance, recessed alcohol, and wonderful mouthfeel all combined to make this extremely enjoyable and about as easygoing as a beer of this style could be, while still packing enough of a punch to remind me that this was indeed an IPA!
