bottled on may first, and while people say these must be consumed real fresh, this certainly doesnt seem to have deteriorated in the slightest. in fact, its a big and juicy as ever, dripping with tangerine hops and radiant pale orange malt. tall white head on it too, looks just beautiful in the glass, erupting with the bright citrus hop profile, as oily a any west coast example of the style, but with an attention to detail uncommon to these beers. its flavor is layers of tropical and citrusy hops. oranges and orange mellon are dominant, but more tart and even close to acrid kumquat type fruits are present in the alpha acid makeup of this hop bill. i dig that hard, all this fruit, very little bitter. still real true to style though, with a robust grain bill that gives a fleshy middle to it, and a very clean finishing ale yeast that has cleaned up most of the sugar required to get this thing up over 8% abv. carbonation is popping off like champagne, and the dryer finish to a real oily hoppy beer is welcomed and foreign to me. age hasn't hurt this a bit. i think i like it better than the winter edition, although its been awhile now...
