On draft at AleSmith, 5/20/18.
Pours a deep brown, almost black. Ivory Head.. minimal lace.
Chocolate, nutty nose. Getting hazelnuts for sure. Roasty. Predominantly subtle. More malt as it warms.
Flavors are roasty and nutty.. finishes bitter. Not getting Nutella in the flavors .. needs to be sweeter. Reminds me a lot of SS JBM. Better as it warms but complexity doesn’t go anywhere further
Medium carb, but with a nice medium body with good residual stickiness.

On Tap
Alesmith Brewing Company
San Diego, CA
Dark as night black with brown edges, thin head but the body of this beer is just spectacular. It's thick and oily and leaves the glass absolutely covered in sticky lace. Thick as can be and dark as night. Spectacular.
Incredibly complex, sweet, evolving, decadent aroma: chocolate, mild roast, a bit of coffee, peanut butter, and hazelnuts. Better and better as it warms.
The flavor too was simply astounding. The chocolate, coffee, and roast notes from the stout marry particularly well with the hazelnut/peanut/candy bar notes from the addition.
Full in body with low, creamy carbonation. Fantastic.
Wonderful stuff, and up there in the same company as the coconut and vanilla variation. My favorite of the on-tap selections at the brewery during BASS pickups.

On tap at O'Brien's for 2012 SDBW.
A: Deep, slick black with a ring of fine, medium dark brown head. No real lacing, but it retains the foam quite well. Almost like looking at an espresso.
S: Smell the inside of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. This is it. Smooth milk chocolate and nuts. Phenomenal.
T: Similar as the nose, loads of chocolate up front. This has the most intense chocolate flavor I can remember on a beer. Moves to a more mild hazelnut, with medium-light sweetness really bringing together all the flavors.
M: Silky, full bodied, and medium-light carbonation which works wonderfully with the body.
O: If Vanilla Coconut Speedway is a Mounds bar, this is a Reese's. Just delicious, decadent stuff. Again, best in small doses.
