22oz bottle dated from August 2013, poured into an unlabeled snifter today, 10/23/2013.

Pours a dark black body actually, and barely illuminates a very dark, opaque brown when held up to the light. Nice 2cm white head that looks rather effervescent. Good lacing all over the glass as it goes down.

Smells like a solid brown ale. Sweet milk chocolate, a bit of roasty malts in the background.. not too smoky, evokes some caramel, toffee and molasses.

Flavour profile is a very clean brown ale profile. Sweet caramel, toffee, brown sugar mixed in with some sweet milk chocolate and roast malts. A little bit of bitterness comes from an earthy hop presence that isn't very strong, perhaps its also some reminder of black coffee. Complex but very clean and enjoyable.

Creamy, thicker bodied for a brown ale. Goes down very smoothly, a bit drying of a finish but not too much so. Very sessionable at 5%, I drank a bomber of this on my own very easily after having a few beers already. Aftertaste is mostly an earthy bitterness that complements that malty sweetness that brown ales typically deliver. Very balanced and smooth.

Enjoyable brown ale. A bit on the bitter side, but very smooth, creamy and sessionable with a great brown ale flavour profile. I really enjoyed this and at $4.99 a bomber, it's a solid purchase if you enjoy brown ales.

650ml bottle poured into an AleSmith snifter.

The beer pours a nice deep brown color, almost black, hues of burgundy and garnet when struck by the light, opaque texture with a thick, taut, khaki head that has decent retention and leaves a few spots of lace behind. The aroma is nice, rich sweet malts, dark brown bread, light bitterness, mild hazelnut that brings out some sweetness to pair with the malts. It's simple, but balanced and well executed. The flavors mirror well, nutty dark grains, sweet malts, a touch of cocoa and brown sugar with only the lightest bitterness, very well balanced, although they seem to feel a bit muted at the end. The mouthfeel is nice, coats the tongue well, carbonation is moderate, has a bit of chewiness at times but finishes a little meekly.

Verdict: A nice example of the English Brown Ale from AleSmith, it's simple but balanced and very sessionable at just 5% ABV. I don't often crave this style, but for those nice crisp fall days, this will definitely do the trick.

22 oz bottle, 2014 vintage, served in a wine glass.

Pours with a very durable tan head that leaves excetional lacing. The body is very dark red-brown, clear but almost opaque.

Aroma: the weak point. Nutty malts with some faint off odors.

Flavor: Moderate strength nutty flavor with dark grains and a impression of dark bread. Good, lingering malty aftertaste.

O: a decent nut brown but the weakest offering I've had from this fine brewery.

Appearance is brown with copper edges and a finger of fluffy beige head that stuck around for eternity and left thick lacing behind. The nose is nutty and bready. The flavor follows the nose but it is not as bold as the very best beers of this style. The body is not quite hearty but not thin either. The finish was very mildly dry and bitter.
