On tap at the brewpub on 7/24/12

My intention was to review only the Big Red IPA but after my wife pointed out that the Raspberry Blonde Ale was made by dumping raspberry syrup into a pint glass and then pouring the regular Blonde Ale into the glass. I decided right there to tick-up the tasting flight by allowing only one line from my steno pad to each beer.

Irresponsibly-deserved Tick #7

A) Dull tobacco brown. Small foam, no retention.

S) Tangy fruit, caramel, buttered toast.

T) Floral hops and caramel and bread. Buttered toast and apple jam.

M) Medium body and nippy carbonation.

On tap at the Ram.

(A)- Pours a chestnut reddish hue. Some tan froth.

(S)- A richer amber/caramel malt backbone than the big red. Still, a "grassy" dryness to it.

(T)- Better! A good malty rich backbone with caramel malt and an almost graham cracker part to its subtle sweetness.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. Malty, but smooth and clean.

(D)- Overall, a solid amber. A good malt profile and feel.

Served in a shaker pint glass at the brewpub.

Where's Dr. Turkleton when you need to mock him? His namesake brew pours a clear amber-copper topped by a half-finger of white micro-foam. The nose comprises light caramel and what seems like a light maple syrup. The taste holds notes of mandarin oranges, caramel, and sourdough. The body is a light medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a somewhat watery feel. Overall, a decent amber, nothing really that special.

Drawn into a growler and stored for 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Shared with light drinkers who are convinced they need to give it another try at the brewery.

A dark brown hue with sparks of red and yellow with a medium carbonation, which provides a light head and bubbly coating on the glass.

Smells of dates and grapes, a caramel presence and herby hops.

Tastes began with caramel sweetness, slightly bitter hop presence and slightly sour aftertaste. Quite a fulfilling balance of effects.

Drinkable and delicious. Each taste a little more satisfying than the last.

Serving type: growler
