Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a two finger milk chocolate head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, coconut, vanilla and quality chocolate. Flavor is dark toasted malt, dark chocolate, toasted coconut and vanilla. Coconut chocolate finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess and fine mouth feel. I'm starting to shy away from dessert stouts because they are often so sweet it gets hard finishing the second half of the glass. This had such big coconut and chocolate in the aroma that I was expecting a quite sweet taste, but it was nicely moderated. It is somewhat sweet, but not as much as the dessert smell and tasteflavors telegraph. The chocolate has particularly high quality flavor and the toasted coconut tastes authentic. The three main flavors are well balanced, but the bourbon barrel quality is subdued, which is not a problem, because there is plenty going on here anyway. Really well done and flavorful. I'm impressed. Looked great too.

poured from a 16oz can into a snifter. pours a dense, oily black with a finger of mocha brown foam head. foam dissipates into a thin ring around the rim of the glass. some dark brown swirls remain. sweet coconut, vanilla and some chocolate and roast on the nose. taste follows with an initial coconut sweetness that is finished with a chocolate maltiness. full mouthfeel, thick and slick. not the most complex stout but it’s tasty. loved the mouthfeel - easy drinking for 10%. these days, i’d say this is in the middle spectrum of sweetness. nothing artificial. well done.

Loved the way this poured from the bottle, with a jet black appearance and light brown foam that quickly disappeared. Smell really lifted up aromas as advertised, coffee, cocoa, coconut and a hint of smoke. The problem was when I tasted it the smoke took the lead, almost making the beer like a coffee, coconut, and bourbon smoked steak. Was hoping for sweet with the pastry style. Feel was dry and warm

On draft at Mikerphone. Served in a stemless glass. Pour is a dark black body, one finger offwhite head, fair retention and no lacing. Smell is rich milk chocolate, mild vanilla sweetness, more milk chocolate, a bit of espresso, fair bit of astringency from the cocoa nibs, and more milk chocolate. The coconut is there, but is more of a contributor or bit player. Flavour is heavy on the milk chocolate, like a milk chocolate malt shake with a bit of toasted coconut flakes on top. That's probably what I'd liken this the most to. Delicious, yummy and thick mouthfeel from the lactose. Carbonation is appropriate, smooth and creamy with a bit of coconut on the end. A very nice pastry stout, not much nuance or balance to it, as all the adjuncts pretty much contribute a chocolate vanilla milkshake flavour to it. At the same time, this is a very enjoyable beer, the merits of all the adjuncts not withstanding.

750 ml bottle into a snifter. Had 8/11/17.

Pours an opaque, dark chocolate brown, with no head and a hint of spotty lacing. Smells of roasted malt, vanilla, cocoa, toffee, molasses, some coconut. The taste pretty much follows the nose- dark roast malt, cocoa, chocolate, caramel, molasses, some coconut, light coffee. Smooth, an appropriate level of carbonation, a decent medium to full body.

This is good, but the heavily roasted malt kind of buries the add- ins in the flavor. Worth a purchase.

Tasted in a Spiegelau stout glass from a 750 ml bottle on February 11, 2018. Look is deep dark brown with a thin tan head and soapy lacing. Smell and taste is hints of the adjuncts and then some booziness. Feel is medium to full in body.
