Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a fluted pilsner glass at the Saltwater Grille in Litchfield, Conn.
A: Poured a mahogany amber color with tawny edges and a creamy head of ivory foam. Lacing was nice and carbonation seemed adequate.
S: Smells slightly nutty and fruity, with a bit of an alcohol aroma too. Figs, dried dates and walnuts go hand in hand with the spicy, fruity floral aroma.
T: Taste is fairly smooth and fruity. There's some alcohol bite, but not much. It has a bit of that dark Belgian sugar flavor to go with the dried fruits and slight hop spiciness. Tastes like an American Dubbel, not that that's a bad thing here.
M: Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, a bit sticky and spicy with a smooth finish.
D: Quite drinkable at a robust 7.6%, but it masks its strength very well. I wouldn't session this one, but it's good for a deuce, and would probably pair well with a roasted meat or red-fleshed fish.
It was lacking a bit of that Belgian punch I've come to expect from a Dubbel, but the variety of specialty malts and dark Belgian sugar made for a tasty and interesting Dubbel.

12oz. bottle poured into a stemmed tulip.
(A)- Pours a clear cranberry red color with some mahogany shades. Minimal off-white froth but with good retention.
(S)- Lots of biscuit-like yeast. Plenty of bubblegum meets some dark fruits and banana at the end.
(T)- Very similar to the smell with a dry biscuity yeast meets some dark fruits, banana, and subtle bubblegum.
(M)- A good carbonation level. A slight grainy feel the the beer texture-wise, but tastes great and minimal bitterness.
(O)- Not many american brewers makes a great dubbel, but this one is one of the best I have had from the states.
