Allagash Dubbel boasts a deep red color and a complex malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. The yeast asserts itself by lending a classic Belgian fruitiness.

Pumpernickel/banana nut bread crust hybrid in color - cloudy dark mahogany. Thin yeasty head that has some strength.
Subtle malt and yeast with cinnamon and maybe some cloves and coriander in a smaller dose. Slightly stewy ambiance. Crisp roasted malt. I have no idea why but I smell something stalky - maybe asparagus?!
Mild and pleasantly earthy. Definitely a warm beef stew quality to it. Carbonation helps cut thinkness. Grassy hops, very mellow malt and yeast. Alcohol is hidden.
I'm not a fan of earthiness but the malt, yeast and slight spice backbone mellows it out nicely. Very full finish with minimal aftertaste.
This is quite drinkable for a style I need to explore in further depth - I am used to the bolder flavor profile of Trippels and Quads but this is very enjoyable.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via Zid----Cheers!
This very nice ale pours a lightly cloudy burnt orange with a solid
head of off white foam that settles to a thick big bubbled ring, thin pool,
and shows some excellent lacing. Nose of toasted malts, light brown sugars,
light earthy yeast, light biscuit, and subtle citrus fruit notes. Flavors exceed the nose
with a mild orange zest surrounded in breaded malts and biscuit that are lightly dashed
with brown sugar and earthy yeast that mingles with light raisin and grape notes. Excellent
mouth feel; medium body, medium carbonation, and a lightly sweet and subtly dry finish with
a slight herbal hop note on the back.
Miss this one in the area----it is a solid brew from a great brewery that has
been missing for about 12 years or so.
Thanks again Zid!
Cheers
