Allagash Dubbel boasts a deep red color and a complex malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. The yeast asserts itself by lending a classic Belgian fruitiness.

Decanted at cellar temp into a goblet
A - The foam burst forth from the neck of this stubby bottle as the crown was cracked - luckily I had the glass close by and not much was lost.
The light cream head rose up above the rim of the glass at more than 3 fingers high, but settled to 1 finger quickly and made some sticky lace on the sides w/ substantial stickage.
S - Very nutty w/ Belgian yeast that is spiced gently and the malt roastiness is evident w/ a light sweetness in the nose after a swirl. Slightly bready/ earthy combination of scents is dominant
M - Rich, roasted, but not overly roasted to the point of coffee or burned. A somewhat dry feel w/ smooth round edges - very nutty and biscuity - almost nut bread-like
T - This has a very fine toasted malt taste. The yeast gives it a gentle bready flavor w/ a very faint spice either malt or yeast spicines, but probably both. I like how the biscuit comes forward 1st and the sweet brown sugar element holds back. The malt blend is slightly roasty but mostly biscuit and the yeast are what sticks out. Very complex indeed , I am jazzed by the low key way this ale go my palates attention w/ a fine mellow nuance of malt as the centerpiece.
D - A very fulfilling beer like liquid bread that really hits 'that' spot. I can tell there is a raisiny sweetness there as the glass is drained . Earthy, lovely and expertly crafted. This is a must try dubbel

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via Zid----Cheers!
This very nice ale pours a lightly cloudy burnt orange with a solid
head of off white foam that settles to a thick big bubbled ring, thin pool,
and shows some excellent lacing. Nose of toasted malts, light brown sugars,
light earthy yeast, light biscuit, and subtle citrus fruit notes. Flavors exceed the nose
with a mild orange zest surrounded in breaded malts and biscuit that are lightly dashed
with brown sugar and earthy yeast that mingles with light raisin and grape notes. Excellent
mouth feel; medium body, medium carbonation, and a lightly sweet and subtly dry finish with
a slight herbal hop note on the back.
Miss this one in the area----it is a solid brew from a great brewery that has
been missing for about 12 years or so.
Thanks again Zid!
Cheers
