Medium brown color. Large head. Aroma is malty and slightly nutty. A medium bodied double. Malts are fairly strong, nutty and a touch sweet. Hops are a touch bitter. Touch of fruit and clove. Nicely balanced. Slightly spicy. Touch of anise and chocolate. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Mahogany brown to reddish with a one finger head that dissipated a little fast, nice lacing, with good carbonation

Softer aroma than expected, some hints of dark fruits, plums and prunes, figs, not much in way of spices, a little biscuit like

More cocoa than chocolate, with a little nut flavor, not as pronounced as a nut brown ale, but similar, definitely the American side of this attempt at a Dubbel

Very smooth and full mount feel, with a little alcohol at the finish, I may have had my temperature in the fridge a little too cold for this one. That being said, perfect amount of carbonation.

Overall, not my favorite from Allagash, but it is a decent American attempt that deserves a look from us. I really think that Allagash does a good job at not only representing this type, but capturing the whole spectrum of Belgian ales. An above average ale, no shame in serving this or ordering. I will go back again. A very nice break from the dozen or so IPAs you will run across tonight.

12oz. bottle poured into a stemmed tulip.

(A)- Pours a clear cranberry red color with some mahogany shades. Minimal off-white froth but with good retention.

(S)- Lots of biscuit-like yeast. Plenty of bubblegum meets some dark fruits and banana at the end.

(T)- Very similar to the smell with a dry biscuity yeast meets some dark fruits, banana, and subtle bubblegum.

(M)- A good carbonation level. A slight grainy feel the the beer texture-wise, but tastes great and minimal bitterness.

(O)- Not many american brewers makes a great dubbel, but this one is one of the best I have had from the states.
