12 oz bottle - Allagash Dubbel, not Allagash Dubbel Reserve, but the label looks the same.
Cloudy amber color, pours a robust just off-white read with good retention.
A spicy fruitiness and some alcohol in the aroma. Yeast character dominates.
A slightly biscuity malt flavor initially, but falls a bit flat midmouth. Finishes a bit spicy bitter, but mostly clean. Needs a bit more yeast character and assertive flavors on the front end. Ferment a bit warmer?
Medium body and med-high carbonation. Mouthfeel very much on style. A bit of alcohol warming, but not overpowering or inappropriate.
From my perspective a bit of a muted dubbel, but that increases the drinkability. Finishes dry enough to invite another sip, and another sip...
