Notes/Commercial Description:
Allagash Dubbel boasts a deep red color and a complex malty taste. The finish is dry with subtle hints of chocolate and nuts. The yeast asserts itself by lending a classic Belgian fruitiness.

12oz bottle poured into an Allagash goblet.

A - Pours a deep, caramel color, hazy with a bit of sediment. Builds an absolutely monstrous 3.5-fingered, khaki colored head. Rocky and has good retention. Lacing is magnificent as well, truly a nice replica of the Belgian styles.

S - Smell is a bit mild, but spices and Belgian yeast dominate the nose. Next comes some dark fruits, berries, and figs. Outside of that it's pretty low-key and repressed. Alcohol comes through in the end as well.

T - Taste follows the nose, relatively sweet and sugary in the front along with the Belgian yeast. Mid-palate is a bit strange, as if it's watery. Finish is nice, though. Crisp and pretty dry, and alcohol is well masked.

M - Mouthfeel is medium bodied, on the low end of carbonation. As mentioned earlier, finish is dry and crisp, which really complements the spiciness in the profile.

D - Drinkability is high. Easy to drink and good flavor, besides the slight hiccup in the middle of the taste. Overall a good tasting Belgian, just were a bit more solid throughout.

12oz. bottle poured into a stemmed tulip.

(A)- Pours a clear cranberry red color with some mahogany shades. Minimal off-white froth but with good retention.

(S)- Lots of biscuit-like yeast. Plenty of bubblegum meets some dark fruits and banana at the end.

(T)- Very similar to the smell with a dry biscuity yeast meets some dark fruits, banana, and subtle bubblegum.

(M)- A good carbonation level. A slight grainy feel the the beer texture-wise, but tastes great and minimal bitterness.

(O)- Not many american brewers makes a great dubbel, but this one is one of the best I have had from the states.

a. Nice brown color, cloudy, with 1.5 finger tan head. Disappears quickly into a trace skimming the top.

s. Spicier than expected - malt coriander, cinnamon

t. Coriander from the spice or the yeast, alcohol on the finish

m. For a 7% ABV it does not hide the alcohol well. Dry, alcohol finish hurts mouthfeel.

o. OK Beer - Coriander kills it for me, but if you like coriander, give this a try.
