Really excited about this new one from Allagash. When everyone is churning out (delicious) IPAs, they stay true and release a straight up Saison. Poured from bottle into tulip. Awesome 3 finger white head on top of a super hazy hay color. Look is amazing! Smells of wheaty, peppery, classic saison horse aromas...
taste of lemony, wheaty, spicy pepper, slight hop, bready...just so much going on. Nice hop bitterness. amazing dry mouthfeel...its full and dry. Almost perfect.
Overall, this is a fantastic brew. Will happily be purchasing this often.
This is what the market needs - an amazing, year round, moderately priced saison.
Cheers and thanks Allagash!

A slightly hazy, pale yellow beer that pours with a finger of rocky, white head. The head leaves light lacing on the glass.
Moderate phenols of black pepper and some smoke blend with a light fruit and pils malt to make up most of the aroma. There is a moderate hops aroma that is earthy and spicy like Saaz.
The taste mirrors the aroma with the spice and a light smoke dominating, followed by a moderate amount of light colored fruit and touch of pils malt sweetness then moving to a dry finish. There is a moderate hops bitterness and a low, spicy hops flavor that complaints the yeast derived flavors.
A light bodied beer with a strong level of carbonation.
A spicy and slighty smoky saison.

In my snifter this beer was a hazy yellow color. There was a tiny white head.
Aroma was citrus, floral, and spicy.
Lemon taste. Sweet bread. Cinnamon. A good amount of funk.
Nice mouthfeel, dominated by the spice. Enjoyable. I will buy this again. Nice 4 pack.

Appearance (4/5): Very hazy goldenrod, bright white fluffy head, stays at 1 finger after dissipating from a towering three-finger-plus stack of foam.
Smell (3.75/5): Lots of crisp lemon, an herbal lemongrass tone, hay-like, some black pepper–a very traditional, solid smelling saison. Having said that, it doesn't wow me, and I don't get much of the more assertive hop profile Allagash is going for by using American hop varietals.
Taste (4/5): Right off the bat, noticeably more citrus flavor than your normal saison–lemon, lemon zest, biting pink grapefruit rind. Glad those American hops show up and flex nicely. At mid-mouth, the beer veers back toward the traditional flavor profile of a saison, becoming grassy and herbal with an arugula like spiciness and a nice malt sweetness, which serves to bring nice balance to the brew. Finishes dry and on the citrusy bitter side with plenty of spice. Really well balanced flavors, nicely rustic.
Mouthfeel (4.25/5): The mouthfeel is where Allagash nails it–perfect high carbonation, silky smooth and a tad creamy (undoubtedly a byproduct of the wise decision to bottle condition ). Medium body and a dryness that, to me, is perfect for a saison.
Overall (4.25/5): Allagash Saison is an extremely solid example of the saison style, though quite traditional despite the use of more assertive, citrusy American hops. (Some may say just a little too "safe". To that barb I retort: MY LEVEL OF CONCERN IS AT ZERO.) Allagash has created of beer of exceptional balance–its tart citrus, peppery spice, herbal, and grassy flavors work in concert to produce a decently complex flavor profile. And all of these flavors are complemented by the excellent carbonation level, smooth feel, and dry finish. Very enjoyable even though it does not push boundaries.
