This provides a lot of intense sensations you might not expect in a light beer. It all seems to be in the usual Saison vein but certainly it's highly flavored. I'm glad not to have flavor additives as this shows how much taste comes out of the grains and yeast.
Attractive pale golden in the New Belgium snifter with a white foam. There is a buttery tang that is quite distinctive but adds to the interest. Some of the "meaty" flavor but also light and sharp. The yeast is very gritty and intense and gets to my throat.
This is a classic of the style that is worth a taste for the education of it, but I think the drinkability suffers. From the 12 oz bottle purchased at Bine & Vine in San Diego.

A - An active cascading pour yields a slightly late to develop two fingers worth of crisp bone white colored frothy goodness... Respectable retention gives way to a more creamy thick veil of lacing with a bit of a rocky top... Loaded with carbonation some of which is moderate paced and some of which is briskly paced, some of which moves in streaks and some of which moves randomly throughout... The color is a vibrant golden orange... There is a slight haziness suspended throughout...
S - Very pleasant but somewhat subdued... The Belgian yeastiness is at the forefront... The next dominant players are a mix of orange and lemon zest... Some sweet citrus as well... There are a lot of grassy and wheat notes as well... A rich spiciness lingers beneath the surface and adds a nice layer of depth and complexity...
T - A dry Belgian yeast presence to start... Orange zest... Crisp cracked wheat... Some fresh cut grass notes... A nice layer of spicy goodness... A slight peppery kick on the finish...
M - Starts light and fluffy, but this one really is on the fuller side of medium bodied... Crisp and rather dense... Loaded with prickly carbonation... Finishes with a bit of a dryness that continues to crescendo...
D - A rather enjoyable Americanized saison... Outstanding appearance and aroma, but the rest is a bit rough around the edges... Not bad my any means, but there are several other excellent Saisons that are easily obtained...
