Allagash Saison is our interpretation of a classic Belgian farmhouse style. It is a golden hued beer, brewed with a 2-Row blend, malted rye, oats and dark Belgian candi sugar. Saison is hopped with Tettnang, Bravo and Cascade hops. Fermented with a traditional saison yeast strain, Saison exhibits notes of spice and tropical fruit in the aroma. Citrus and a peppery spice dominate the flavor and make way for a pleasant malt character. Saison is full bodied with a remarkably dry finish.

Pours a pale gold yellow with a lasting medium white head, some lacing. Aroma of Belgian yeast, wheat, citrus hops. Taste is sweet citrus, wheat, coriander, herbal and spiced hops. Palate is a medium body, crisp with moderate carbonation. Finish is Belgian yeast, bready, citrus, coriander with some good spiced hops for balance. A refreshing, crisp and enjoyable brew to drink overall.

On-tap 9/20/2014 at Track 84 in Warwick, RI, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains Belgian yeast, wheat, citrus, some spice and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out bready with a hearty malt character, Belgian yeast and wheat. Then some mild sweetness comes in from flavors of bananas, citrus and caramel. There’s also a touch of sourness. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solid Saison to drink for a long time.

Not my favorite saison, but serviceable nonetheless. Herbal, grassy, mild, tart citrus, and a bit of funky barnyard. Nice head and beautiful lacing that crowned my tulip glass throughout. Love that.

Amazingly fruity nose with excellent balance full of notes that contain cereal as well as lemon. Have to compliment them on how well the beer is made. The head is flawless and lingers for a long time, very well made. Some other notes of bubblegum on the nose. The taste is beautifully malty with a complex backbone of hop that is so amazingly well done. This has to be one of the most balanced beers I have ever had. A great saison.

This is my first saison, so I'm not certain what to look for in this style. But even without a point of reference, I really enjoy this beer. It's fruity and refreshing. It makes me feel like I'm sitting in a sunny herb garden surrounded by chirping birds and purring cats (even though I'm actually in my room on a cold and rainy evening in nyc.)

The color is far more hazy than I've ever experienced before, at least in a lighter color ale. I don't find the opacity unappealing or anything, just very interesting.
