Allagash Century Ale is a Brett Saison Brewed with Pilsner, Raw Wheat and Biscuit Malt. This beer is fermented for 2 years in stainless steel with a blend of a traditional Saison yeast and Brettanomyces. Before Packaging it is dry hopped with a blend of German and American experimental hops. Golden in color, Century Ale has aromas of toasted crackers, passion fruit and citrus. Complex flavors of biscuit and fruit are followed by a dry, slightly tart finish. This beer should be consumed fresh.

375ml bottle from 2005.
Pours clear gold with a short-lived head of white. Minimal retention or lacing. Pineapple skins, citrus zest, clove-studded apples in the nose. Light bodied with a slickish mouthfeel. Shades of tangerine, pineapple, lemon-lime on the palate. Finishes zesty and dry but fairly limp and past prime.

Bottled January 2016, consumed 3.5 years after. I hope it hasn’t gone off in that time. Moderate cork pop, pours a dark amber with some yeasties summer around & a nice Full off white head. At first whiff it was very funky but soon become much more pleasant: citrus, bread dough & wheat. Taste is a nice balance of salty, sweet, bitter & sour. Fairly complex flavor profile: pear, lemon, moderate funk, leather, spices, pepper, hops, biscuit & various ripe fruit. Lots of bubble action, no alcohol flavor, medium viscosity. There’s a lot going on here. Tart & refreshing & delicious.

A: Poured into a tulip glass to a bright light orange topped by a finger of dense white head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of light sourness and oak with some fruity white wine notes and some slight spice
T: Taste is tart up front with some slight funk and leather with some fruity notes. Slight white wine like presence as well. Hints of spice at times with a nice pleasing tartness throughout. Swallow is more earth and leather with some lingering tartness, spice and fruit.
M: This beer has a light body but is not watery with effervescent and slightly prickly carbonation. The tartness and acidity gives this one a pleasant dry finish.
O: Overall this is a really nice farmhouse style ale with some nice tartness and flavor complexity. Very well done and pretty nicely balanced as well. Definitely worth a try.

Bottled 1/20/16, so not as fresh as I typically like saisons. 8% so I'm guessing it's held up well enough though...
Pours murky orange-yellow with a solid finger of white head.
Nose is sour lemon and pear. Funky and inviting.
Taste is an immediate lemony zing that drops off into dry, biscuity passion fruit. Medium sourness. Definitely tart.
Mouthfeel is simulatenously slick and dry. Mouth-coating but smooth. An interesting beer.
Overall, similar to Allagash Nancy but a little more one-note. Lemon-dominant but balanced nicely enough by some breadiness.

Look: It pours golden with a white head. It has plenty of Belgian lace on the side. Clarity is good.
Smell: The aromas are highlighted by the brett with leather being the strongest aroma and barnhouse being in the background. It also has aromas of lemon, spicy notes, and some fruit. There are some subtle grainy notes as well that are not to distinct.
Taste: The flavors are full of tartness. The flavors are highlighted by fruit and lemon with spicy pepper, leather. There is an initial bitterness that fades as the tart flavors take over.
Feel: It has a light body towards the moderate side with a dry finish. There is also quite a bit of carbonation as well.
Overall this is a highlight of the Brett with a complex mixture of hops and malts with the brett being dominant in the flavor and the other flavors provide a solid backbone.

These guys continue to amaze me. Pours with vigor and settles to a large white head with almost clear golden yellow. A nice citrus tartness with a bit of spice and funk to match in the aroma. Really nice. Flavor matches aroma nicely with a bit of bitterness and a little more peppery pop. Lively carbonations really allows the subtleties comes through nicely.

A: Pours a lively and spritzy clear gold with everlasting tiny bubbles surfacing into what looks like a perfectly smooth fluffy white pillow of a head that persists.
A: A perfect blend of acidity and farmhouse funk! A bit of granny smith apples and spice. I could smell this forever and be perfectly content.
F: Starts with sweet and sour apples, nice and tart, then moves into a bit of that classic barnyard funk. Some might say sweaty horse, but I've never tasted a sweaty horse so I couldn't tell you. It finishes a bit metallic, which to me is the only negative about this beer. That may be due to its 11 month age, but who am I to say for sure.
F: Hits the tongue like an overload of suds, bubbling up in every corner of the mouth. Very light feeling and tart at first, creamy for just a second, then ends dry and quickly at that. Refreshing, but pretty bitter which stays until the next sip. Quite the orchestra of senses.
O: I love this beer! I was unable to try One-T or Little Brett, but I would assume this falls around that spectrum based on descriptions read. Again, the only thing preventing me from calling this amazing was the metallic aftertaste. Otherwise, a very delicious funky and tart Saison. Cheers!
