Bottled March 2009
A: Golden blond with fine clarity. Moderate white head is well retained by a constant supply of bubbles. Very attractive beer.
S: Aroma is a bundle of sweet fruity esters. Apple, pear and grape with a touch of vanilla/oak. Bourbon shows a bit at room temperature.
T: While not so noticeable in the aroma, bourbon barrels are easily distinguished here. Initial fruit flavors found in the aroma quickly move into spicy yeast and bourbon flavors. Starts out with a modest sweetness and finishes bitter with a light tannic presence.
M: Medium-bodied and carbonated just about right. Not overly heavy or boozy for a big tripel.
Having had this beer on draft a number of times, the bourbon always seems to overpower everything else about the beer. But with a year or two in the bottle, it really mellows into something special.
