This is a 2008 bottling. Lots of beautiful white head on a typical tripel colored base. As I drink it, the lacing holds fast to the sides of the glass. A very pretty beer.
The aroma tells you right away that it was aged in bourbon barrels. I've had an '09 bottling and the nose on the 08 is much more civilized; the bourbon is not as overwhealming as in the more recent vintage. There is a definite woodiness lurking in the background.
The '08 bourbon flavor is nicely moderated and blends wonderfully with the oak and tripel in beautiful balance. The alcohol is well hidden. This is a beautiful beer, so good I don't want to finish it. The carbonation delivers all the wonderful flavors in perfect harmony.
Allagash makes great beers and this is one of their best!

Bottling date of March 22, 2013. Poured into goblet.
A-A nice burnt orange body with great clarity. The head was a pinkies width at best with minimal head retention.
S-Oak, peach, vanilla with a overall earthiness to it. None of them are really pronounced but all melded together.
T-Really enjoy the flavor of this beer. Up front you definitely get a fruitiness of peach and mango with the vanilla coming in after it. The bourbon barrels come in with the dry finish. The barrel aging is more subtle than I was expecting but fucking awesome none the less.
M-On the heavier side for the body thats broken up by the high carbonation. Dryer finish.
O-So this beer was worth the $18 after all. Enjoyed it alot. Wish the price tag was less so I could drink this more often. I do not know the ratio of how much they blend the fresh triple with the barrel aged tripel but being that the bourbon/vanilla/aged characteristics are so subtle I would say a majority of this beer is the fresh tripel. Not complaining at all because I really enjoy this beer. I will have to grab this years and see how it taste.
