Served cold - a little too cold for such a high alcohol content beer - on tap at a Sprouts inside bar in a trumpet-shaped pilsner, which I found odd for a Tripel.
Glass filled to the top, so no head and minimum lacing.
Appearance is foggy golden yellow, with some bubbles surfacing to the top.
Hard to smell because it's so cold and my allergies, but I could make out a delicious blend of sweet flowers, fruit, and caramel with some distinct delicious barley aroma.
Taste characteristic of Belgian beers, with a delicious sweet-tingly taste of barley, malts, caramels, fruits, and licorice.
Goes down very smoothly for an 11% beer, pleasant tingling from carbonation and a warmth due to alcohol lingers.
Overall an obvious quality brew from a reputable brewery that I would be sure to try again.

750ml bottle in Duvel tulip
bottled on Nov 2009
Found this in the basement, purchased a couple of years ago in NJ. Probably bought too many 750s and this one got lost in the back.
A: Light golden/copper color with a 1/2 finger not-quite-white head, large than expected given the alcohol level.
S: Light bourbon and a little oak/woodiness.
T: Lots of oak character (vanilla cream) but not much in the way of tannins. There is a subtle belgian-yeast flavor (fruity esters) but not much. The bourbon is very integrated, most of what is obvious is wood vs. bourbon.
M: Crisp and yet somewhat creamy/mouthcoating, I assume this is the tripel interacting with the wood.
O: An obviously well made beer that almost certainly would have been better 2 years ago., still tastes very good, but everything is too muted to be world class. Based on this bottle and other reviews, I would definitely purchase again.

This is silky smooth with a complex nose and medium bodied flavor that hangs on long after each swallow. One can definitely detect the bourbon as well as a hint of honey. By my standards, this was pricy but worth it. Forced to write more in order to post. So, there is also a hint of an English ale - like Old Speckled Hen, but only a hint.

Glowing honey gold with a healthy finger of soapy whiteness on top that retains for a few minutes before forming a neat collar. Body is mildly active.
Wow... never smelled anything like this before. Vanilla, toffee, clove, leather, cookies, a bit of heat if you really snort for it, mushy grapes and figs. Smells darker than it looks... raisins... pineapple? All over the place.
Musty oak with a sweet bourbon that envelopes an otherwise clean tripel profile. There's that wheaty yeast and cereal malt that you might find in Chimay white or Karmeliat but then there's this mellow bourbon barrel contribution that really transforms this into something unique.
