Notes/Commercial Description:
Allagash Curieux was the first foray into barrel aging. Curieux is made by aging our Tripel Ale in Jim Beam bourbon barrels for eight weeks in our cold cellars. The aged beer is then blended back with a portion of fresh Tripel. The resulting beer is soft with coconut and vanilla notes, with hints of bourbon.

Appearance – Pours a hazy golden orange color with a nice head that stays around and lots of lacing. Tiny carbonation bubbles noticeable.

Smell – Yeast, sweet bourbon, spike cake, orange, and oak.

Taste – A touch of bourbon with spice (pepper). Kind of simple; not as complex as the smell.

Mouthfeel –Lightly carbonated, almost flat, with a light bourbon bite.

Drinkability – Nice for 11%abv; perhaps a bit flat.

Picked up a 750 ml bottle from the Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido in early September for $20.99. Bottled on 1-3-14.

Beer poured golden with a beautiful white head that is very long lasting.

Nose is classic Belgian yeast strain; light fruits with a kiss of oak and vanilla.

Taste is pear and apple with an initial in your face oaken vanilla boozy blast that has nicely come to accent the flavor of the beer rather than dominate it.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and with the classic trippel yeast strain each sip glides light and smooth across my palate.

Overall another wonderful brew from Allagash who is perhaps the best American made Belgian style brewer! A spendy proposition but glad I took the plunge!

Honey copper color, with a fluffy big head.

Aromas of spice, yeast, bourbon and wood.

Buttery malts, caramel, hints of spice and warming bourbon, evolving slowly on the palate in a very pleasant way. Also a wooden note comes up, body by itself isn’t too huge, despite the unique mix of flavors. That leaves some space for mild belgium yeast, to smooth out the mouthfeel. Long yeast finish, with an underlying touch of bourbon.

Had this just an hour or so ago on-tap at the Bier Haus in Savannah, GA; it was wonderful and not like anything I've had before. Had a great taste with a little bourbon flavoring and was smooth as silk until I almost licked the glass clean. Maybe I will get a few of the bombers when I see them...

Delicious. Poured into tulips and shared. A hazy pinkish-straw color with a pure white head. Whiskey on the nose with vanilla, white wine and raisin. Tastes delicious with whiskey, wine, oak, raisin, caramel and vanilla notes. Nice level of carbonation and a fairly dry finish. Very nicely done. This is worth repeating.
