on tap at Duckworths (NC)
Pour is a bit light for the style; but then I see this is partly a dark wheat beer. The clear dark brown/amber body is covered by a bone head that has great retention
Mouthfeel: near medium body with well-chose, soft carbonation. Very smooth.
Taste and Aroma: Wheaty, with plenty of alcohol esters and Belgian yeast. Also rather sweet up front. with hints of caramel and brown sugar, but ends mildly bitter.
O: Low on dark fruit for style, this Belgian ale was disappointing but should appeal more to folks who like wild yeast and wheat in their beers more than I do.
Serving type: on-tap

poured into a pint style glass but a bit smaller. a dark beer. aroma is a really nutty, (and I normally don't consider things nutty) and definitely getting warm roasty woody notes as well. hint of what i'd describe as vanilla wafer. excellent smelling but taste didn't quite match up. got hints of coacoa. little to no carbonation. i'm pretty sure this was on a nitro tap

750ml C&C bottle from February 2011. Generously sent to me by Gunch. Thanks John. Poured into an unlabeled snifter today, 2/6/2014.
App- Dark black body, looks a bit thin but definitely a non-illuminable brown; comes with a nice fluffy 2 finger white head that makes for a nice contrast. Good retention, no lacing.
Smell- Sweet caramel, vanilla, roast malts, some dark fruits, good oak presence. No real hint of the Belgian yeast that was presumably used here.
Flavour- Caramel, roast malts, figs. Less complex than the nose. Less oak is present on the palate. Even is a bit metallic.. not enough to detract from the whole experience. Not a particularly intense or complex beer, but still tasty. No alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel- On the thin side, a bit watery. Fine carbonation. Aftertaste is a solid sweet vanilla flavour that fades away quickly. Fairly drinkable for the ABV.
Overall- Interesting take on the BSDA; unfortunately this style must not be for me. Seeing how expensive this one is makes me shake my head. I wouldn't buy this again if it was just me; though if you like BSDAs, this might be for you.
