Notes/Commercial Description:
Allagash Odyssey is a dark wheat beer aged for ten months, a portion in oak barrels and the remainder in stainless tanks. The recipe includes 2-row barley, malted wheat, a generous amount of roasted barley and Belgian candi sugar. This deep brown beer boasts an aroma of black treacle and raisin. The flavor hints at dates, with a mildly roasted finish imparted by aging in both medium and heavy toast American Oak barrels. The finish is dry, punctuated by vanilla.

Reviewed 4/19/13, bottled Dec 2011, 750 ml bottle in a tulip.

A - Pours a clear brownish red with a two finger light tan head. Little lacing, but a beautiful looking beer.

S - Sweet malts, champagne smell probably from yeast. Oak/wood is present, but not overpowering, candy, maybe some chocolate too.

T - Light malt and oak which is the dominant flavor but not overpowering, pleasant. Still has some alcohol burn. Brown Sugar notes.

M - Medium body, medium to high carbonation. Pretty drinkable for such a big beer, smooth too.

O - Very good and it was about a year and a half old. I would like to eventually try one fresher to see how it compares. This beer goes down way to easy for a 10%+ beer.

Poured from tap into tulip at Mekong in Richmond Virginia. Deep dark brown with a finger of head. Awesome sugary plum and raison aromas...
Sweet roasted malts, coffee, dried fruit and maybe some tobacco. Wow. Its so smooth and just a joy to drink. The wood is barely noticeable but really mellows out the brew to an almost chugable drink. This is fantastic.
