The aroma has roasted malt, chocolate, sweet caramel, and cffee.
The flavor follows of chocolate, porter roasted malt quality, and then plums and a yeast. A lacking mid palate then onto an oak quality.
The beer is quite sweet and bready, but dries off on the finish with woody oak barrel.

2014 Vintage. Dark brown, chestnut even, with mahogany highlights. A really nice-looking head with great persistence, leaving some almost equally nice lacing. Aroma is a match for the best Belgian quads, and it has some interesting differences. The wheat is definitely detectable, smelling a bit like a Weizenbock. Hints of clove and banana. Besides that, there's a whiff of cocoa, then it segues into ripe raisin and date. Top it all off with oaky vanilla. An intricate aroma.
The flavor is almost equally complex. Robust, malty, not that sweet. The flavor profile stays mostly true to Quad/BSDA, the wheat character being quite muted. Dark malts and dark fruits are dominant. More fruity esters and a touch more sweetness would take this to next level. Slightly sticky, throat-coating mouthfeel. Carbonation is almost pillowy-soft. Some oak and just a hint of alcohol on the finish.
Allagash Odyssey is great, much better than "Four." This is, for all intents and purposes, a Quad. Not quite as good overall as the Trappist titans, but it holds it's own.
