My review of Sam, now wait... Hugh Malone (Sam's father?). I picked up this bottle based only on the reputation of Allagash alone.
This is a very good looking Belgian IPA. You get a ton of sticky foam right off the pour. There is quite a bit of lacing on the glass each time I finish it.
Smells good too. You get a bunch of belgian presence and hops. It comes through the flavor as well. I like the balance of each.
I downgraded this beer because it really falls off when it warms. You get a lot of bitterness and a little metallic taste. I recommend sharing this bottle to enjoy it at the best temperature.

From notes at the brewery on 10-17-13
A - Slightly hazed yellow gold with one finger of fizzy white head medium lacing.
S - Nice tropical notes of pineapple and a little mango, belgian yest and some spice.
T - Very good flavor, those tropical notes are front and center followed up by a nice spicy clove and even a slight slight hint of mint, finishes more on the tart citrusy side.
M - Dry but not dehydrating kinda dry, crisp.
O - Very good blend of american IPA and a belgian, tons of flavor.
