Notes/Commercial Description:
Allagash Black is a Belgian style stout brewed with 2 Row barley, torrified wheat, oats, both roasted and chocolate malt and a generous portion of dark caramelized candi sugar. The silky mouth feel is a great balance to the roasted character, coffee and dark chocolate notes expressed throughout this beer.

Review from 6/2011 notes. Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a very dark red brown amber with a two finger light tan head and light lacing. Nice aroma of cocoa, coffee, dark malt and dark fruit. Flavorful dark and roasted malt, dark fruits, cocoa; almost like a spiked malted milk. Belgian yeast and spicing is present and well integrated. Slight hop kick at the finish. A complex, great tasting ale or stout with a very nice flavor progression. Medium to creamy body. Impressive.

Poured into a goblet. No head, only a faint covering, dark amber to brown colored. Bubbles visible.

Smells spicy, molasses, black licorice, yeasty and roasted malt.

Bold and rich flavor. Roasted malt, some sweetness at the beginning, bready, lots of burnt malt at the end. Complex profile and perfectly put together.

Light and "fluffy" texture. Low carbonation.

Incredible! Just a bit more on the appearance and this is near perfect.

On tap at Meridian Pint in DC, beer is black / brown with a thin weak head of tan bubbles, low retention, low carbonation. No lacing, looks OK.

Aroma is roasty with a mild yeast ester character.

Beer is medium to light in body, sweet up front, yeasty in the middle, the finish is dry and bitter from the grains, I guess this is suppose to be like a Belgian Stout? Not really enjoying it, not a repeat.
